No one cares that anti-addon purists are mad about an addon. This is as old as the game is and the Devs don’t share your piss-poor mentality.

Yes and no, It will only tell you when someone uses a stealth ability but it can’t help really you find them. The most you will get is a notification if someone fades slightly from stealth.
so why do people use this add on? Can you tell me what they use it for if there is no benefit or advantage?
If you CAST stealth in range of someones combat log to pick you up then yes it will detect you because that’s how the addon works, it reads the combat log and alerts you of nearby people by detecting their actions from the combat log.
If you are already stealth then no the addon will not alert them.

Another bad thing about it is that right now Defense and general chat channels are flooded with SPY announcement of “where an enemy player is” from ganked players who seek revenge.
It brings drama and whining,
“Go find him, he killed me, how dare he”
“Why isn’t alliance helping me”
“boooohooo hooooo”
I use it.
I usually have three chat panels open: guild/party/group stuff, general/trade/lfg, combat log.
I got into habit of monitoring combat log from games like DAoC and continued to do it into WoW. This addon pulls out alot of the more imortant info that you tend to scan the combat log for, mostly are enemies around. I still keep combat log open even with the addon mostly out of habit but also I tend to review it after fights.
There nowhere in the combat log that a player goes stealth.
Literally nowhere.

WoW’s interface is simple, but if you are having problems operating it then there are lots of tips and tricks posted online. I’d suggest looking at those.
For your combat log, If you personally want to see stealth messages then:
- right click combat log
- choose settings
- Add a filter call it ‘Enemies’ or something
- Set message sources to ‘Enemy Players’
- Make sure Message Type ‘Auras’ are enabled.
You don’t need to do that for Spy as it monitors the full Combat Log feed. But do the above if you want to see similar messages yourself.

Is there an in game option for posting and alerting that there is stealth around? Does it visually give you a warning besides the chat box?
Why do you say that? Even if they know you’re around, they still have to find you.
Don’t think so other than the noise it makes when someone comes in and out of stealth when you are ‘close’ to them.
Spy makes that same noise for its alert.
