That is not a reason to prevent others who are happy from having a pet around. It’s literally just this lust issue. There are way way way more ways to address the lust issue than taking utility away from hunters that play with pets.
If you don’t play with a pet, you get a permanent, consistent, dps boost at the cost of a talent point. That should be good enough, it’s a trade off. 10 min burst dps but lower overall dps, OR higher consistent throughput, but no 10 min burst. Seems very reasonable.
Why do hutners even need a lust? We didn’t always have one, then they added it, and now people want to change a foundational and fundamental aspect of the class to cater to people who want everything all the time with no downsides.
MM hunters already have trueshot. That’s a much better haste buff, it’s faster, with other dps procs and on a reducible 2min CD. BUT, that said, if you want to have lust and consistently higher dps, with no pet management, fine. Just make lust a talent. OR remove it from pets and give it to hunters baseline. Or hell, do all the changes you’re proposing, give everything to the high prog min maxers that they want, and penalize the dps of hunters who want to keep their pet. Make us spend a talent point on that instead of something else, and take our lust away too.
There is zero, zero, reason to completely remove pets from MM, just to give hunters a petless lust. Seriously. That is a problem that requires a scalpel to fix and they’re loading up a grenade. I mean hell, they could just make “dismiss pet” instant cast off the GCD, and that would address the “pet management” complaints the lone wolf hunters have.
I am missing something fundamental. In all these threads it’s “I want lust with no pet management” vs “I have an emotional bond with my pet.” I’ve mained a hunter since wrath, and my issue is the loss of utility that pets provide.
I rarely use lust, I have trueshot for solo stuff that’s on a much shorter cooldown and provides more haste. If I’m in a raid there is always a shaman or mage or evoker in the raid with it. I am really not sure why MM hunters are so adamant about having this in their toolkit. But whatever, different strokes.
The issue is the utility. My pet is a tank. Without a pet, I am moving/kiting and spending GCDs on roots/snares and both of those cost dps. My pet stops me from facetanking and increases my dps. My pet can go gather up mobs so I can AOE them much more efficiently and effectively. My pet can distract mobs that I don’t want to deal with while I run by. My pet can position mobs more favorably if I’m trying to avoid a group of pathing mobs while I dps the ones in front of me without getting adds or allow me to stand outside of the AOE i need to avoid on the ground. My pet can CC feared/running mobs to avoid pulling more. I can take on more mobs, with less direct damage to me by kiting one and pet tanking the other. My pet can pull mobs that are out of my LOS without me moving. My pet can fetch loot I can’t reach. I use my pet for utility in 100 different ways while questing, mat/chest farming, delving, soloing rares/elites, etc, basically playing 90% of the content of this game.
And no one is even discussing this impact when arguing for/against this change. This is a huge QOL loss so that, as best i can understand it, some min/max progression folks can have a 10 min lust without the hassle of a pet. I don’t understand.
I suppose my thing is I have a Dark Ranger Blood Elf MM who I just made for aesthetics and ya know the whole lore dead thing makes it weird to see a Falcone she wouldn’t have had. If they are gonna force a look to my alt, let me aesthetically match so totally team more birbs or flying stuff. If they make a moth or butterfly do that then we talking. Also crows.
For Survival I can see that being MORE of a problem. Those are Rexxar’s pets, not the ones you have. If they want me to play up and close with my tame then let me play with MY pets and not someone else’s.
Ghouls jumping out of the ground is hilarious and I love it. I’m glad they are faster and get into the fight sooner.
You know they stack right? And that neither is on the GCD?
Because M+ exists. Also 10-mans (you very well might be the only lust in one of those, depending on who made it to raid that night.) And while lust isn’t needed for delves currently, they’re likely to get harder in S2 (especially while we’re all gearing up our vaults), so having it available for tough bosses in those is going to be beneficial.
You have several abilities that do work while moving, like RF/SS. Moreover, Disengage and Cheetah are not on the GCD. This is an issue most petless ranged specs already found ways to deal with.
Again, these are all activities other petless ranged specs manage to complete every week.
