Pathfinder, a wonderful system, wouldn’t we all agree?
Of course not, its a terrible system. Pathfinder is broken, and I would like to explain why.
Pathfinder is the majority of the grind for most players, because of this, you will end up in revered with most factions by the end of this grind. So I would like to ask the simple question, why should we grind most of the main content just so we can fly for a small amount of time after the majority of the grind? It simply makes little to no sense, as it completely invalidates the point of flying. Why should I unlock flying if all I can do with it is fly around in now outdated zones?
What is a solution to this, you may wonder? Make getting Pathfinder a much quicker thing then it currently is. Doing this will make Pathfinder actually worth something, as you would not already have most of the grind done by the time you unlocked it.
Edit: Thanks for reinstating the thread after it got flag spammed, CM’s.
PF was a solution for a problem that didnt exist.
NOONE was thinking…GOD i wish flight had a long boring grind attached to it before PF was forced on the player base.
It was never needed.
All it does is punish some players who dont enjoy following the cheese thru the maze style gaming.
Those who like it were going to do all that crap in the first place, so it was never going to affect their game play.
they SHOULD have left the old way of getting flight alone…then ADDED PF for those who would do the grinding and get flight account wide.
Should just be a long quest, all of the rest of it don’t make sense except they’re trying to get people to stay subbed over the time frame of a long achievement. I wonder if the amount of money they made keeping people subbed counters the loss of people who just gave up.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be quick so much as it has to feel like an actual reward, ie: something that you can do at your own pace and grind out. It needs to be able to be completed at launch, not something you’re waiting to get flipped over.
I’d say yes and no. This is an unpopular opinion but the concept of flight for gold really devalued as gold inflated. Original flight was something that was cheap to get for slow mounts and pretty expensive for the fast zoom zoom we all have. By MoP gold for flight kind of lost meaning. If they wanted to keep up with inflation the cost of flight today would be far greater than the piddly 5k it used to be, which was trivial then and even more trivial now.
To that extent revamping the way you earned flight isn’t really all that bad, even if it’s not as easy as forking over some gold, but Pathfinder doesn’t do its job because it’s just gated behind when they want us to have it rather than letting us complete it at our own pace.
its a mode of travel, lol. It doesnt NEED to be a gold sink.
Set a date. Allow flight on that date with max level.
Flight being a gold sink is yet ANOTHER joke about this game, lol
Part 2 is not needed. Further delays travel when we have already explored everything in said content within the first few weeks and are near revered within the first 4 months.
Legion wasn’t this bad exploration wise. I actually enjoyed doing pathfinder for Legion. But as for BFA.
Let’s just say that I can’t wait for ShadowLands launch date. It can’t come any sooner.
Also dazing is really annoying.
A punishment is exactly what it is because Ion doesn’t like flight and his attempts to remove it from the game cost Blizzard a ton of money and he had to go back on his Perfect Word.
It’s not about that, it’s that they sell gold and flight gives a big advantage so you risk the appearance of pay to win. Doesn’t justify their throwing everything into the achievement, that’s something else.
Because you want flying, you don’t need flying. Hearthstone is in a 16min cd and the whistle in 5, traveling is easier than it’s ever been. The only ones that need flying are miners and herbalists and even them get around it, flying makes mats easier to gather but it also diminishes their value in gold for that same reason.
People complained that there was nothing to do in Cata and MoP because they flew over all the content.
Pathfinder is not an objective, is a side bonus.
I remember people complaining in Cata and MoP, but it wasn’t for those reasons.
We use flying mounts to get to the content, not fly over the content. What we are flying over is filler stuff that either we don’t need or (more likely) we have cleared before. Been that way since BC.
To which I ask the $100,000 prize pool question that no one has been able to answer.
What is this content that flying makes so accessible or enjoyable?
I use a taxi every time and fly a small gap to get to dungeons or WQs, grounded would take me an extra 20 or 30 seconds.
Though if I really wanted to, would just hop on my mage and finish the rep grind. All I have left are seekers and champions rep. And then part one is done, and I have to explore that mechagnome place and then part 2 is done.
I said this once in another thread on the same topic. Abolish pathfinder all together and just make it so you have to complete every quest and side quest in a zone to gain the ability to fly in that particular zone and when you move to another do the same thing until you unlock flying in every zone. Or do every main and side quest in every zone and then flying unlocks for you. That way, you experience everything on the ground like Blizzard wants and when you come back on an alt you have flying unlocked and ready to go to speed up content you have already finished and seen.
