The Silver Covenant are irrelevant

There is a lot of discussion about the Silver Covenant going on at the moment because of the concept of the “uniting of the elves” and despite the fact that High Elves, let alone the Silver Covenant, have not been mentioned at all yet in Midnight announcements.

But for all practical purposes, the Silver Covenant is already dead and gone. When Jaina was ousted from Dalaran in Legion, the Silver Covenant likewise lost their positions among the Kirin Tor and even had the name stripped from the Alliance enclave. Vereesa no longer stood where she had next to Rhonin, and was largely only involved through the Trueshot Lodge. Even the Exploring Northrend book relegated the Silver Covenant to a passing mention on the page covering Sunreaver’s Command.

And now in The War Within we have learned that Vereesa had left Dalaran who knows how long ago, having left the Silver Covenenat leaderless before the destruction of Dalaran. The destruction of which removed any purpose the Silver Covenant had. And the destruction of which left untold number of the Silver Covenant dead.

      I should not be here.

And I am… afraid to face my commander now that she has returned because of why.

In her absence, I was tiring of command. So, I feigned illness for the day.

Make no mistake, when Dalaran was attacked, I immediately joined the battle.

But because I was not there when the nerubians first attacked, I survived.

I… do not know how to deal with this shame.

If I had not taken leave to help care for my sister and her newborn, they would be mourning me here as well.

The rest of my regiment–save my second, standing in the back–did not survive the crash.

I am glad still others of the Silver Covenant have survived, but I must do what I can to honor those who lost their lives under my command–and others who lost their lives on Dalaran… no matter their affiliation.

I am heartened that everyone is putting aside their differences at least for now…

For all the people referring back to a Sunreaver being fed to a shark, narratively the Silver Covenant members who performed that crime may not even be alive any more (nor might even be Segacedi the shark, for that matter), leaving those above who are not focused on the differences any more.

While yes, the Dalaran epilogue quest not bringing up Garithos nor the Purge of Dalaran is a completely valid criticism that should be made, fixation on the Silver Covenant when we haven’t even been told that we will see them in Midnight can be for all practical purposes moot at this point.

I am somewhat skeptical that the Silver Covenant even exists as a functional organization anymore, given most of them died when Dalaran imploded and subsequently got mulched into magic power within the dark heart.

The stay awhile and listen you can get after that quest with Khadgar doubled down on that by saying nearly everyone not accounted for is dead.

Agreed. Even if the Sunreavers/Silver Covenant were still around in fighting form I’m not sure I’d care to revisit this subplot with them. The SC were ultimately just hatchet men for Jaina, and Jaina managed to dodge accountability even in a quest line dedicated to the chequered past of Dalaran; it’s pointless to relitigate the Purge with henchmen. I’d rather their presence not require us to do so, and Midnight’s high elf stories to focus more on individuals than organizations, as befits their status in the lore.

The only purpose they ever served was being a militant anti-blood elf hate group.

Let them be dead and buried, their leader along with them.

Exactly… we can forgive and move past Sunreavers helping destroy Theramore as well as Silver Covenant crossing the line with civilians.

Silvermoon is a horde city.
Theramore was an alliance city that claimed neutrality while actively perpetuating alliance invasion of horde sovereign territory.
We don’t care about theramore.

We care about the blood elves that were ethnically purged by agents of the alliance.

It seems like any/all survivors are likely to become integrated with the Void Elves, with time — which is almost worse because the Void Elves have become so powerful that they have had no need to just spee vitriol at the Blood Elves, and instead treat them with an indifference borne of perceived superiority.

The dynamic that existed between High Elves and Blood Elves was primarily just political grandstanding, two groups that spewed a bunch of scathing comments at each other — the dynamic that exists between the Void Elves and Blood Elves is much colder, with the Void Elves seeming to view the Blood Elves through a lens of pity, and they treat them as an absolute non-threat (and probably rightly so, based on what we’ve seen each group is capable of).

I don’t know. It’s like Blood Elves went from having an adversary that actually considered them formidable, to having an adversary that views them like flies to be swatted. Any fan of Void Elves, and even High Elves, should be loving this dynamic.

Wat.
Even with alleria’s training, void elves are perpetually on the brink of becoming slaves to the void. They wrestle with it every single day, according to umbric.

Void elves are absolutely not better off at all.

Did the words “better off” appear, even once, in my comment?

Pity at blood elves, power, etc.

I ask, once more, the same question. :man_shrugging:t2:

Quoting on phones sucks, whatever I’ll get back to this when I get home.

Back in the BFA launch I mentioned this very dynamic and Lor’themar’s and Rommath’s comments at the Battle for Lordaeron where the Ren’dorei fielded an army of rangers and ported in en masse. Lor’themar and Rommath were shocked to see so many void elves and didn’t expect their numbers to have been so large. All thru the Blood War and later Fourth War the Void Elves were MVPs along with the Dark Iron fielding not just one army campaign but several. Going so far as in Dragonflight being present amongst the expeditions that went to the Dragon Isles and in Telogrus Rift we can see that they’ve only exploded in population recruiting enough to field a significant force that may very well be an existential threat to Silvermoon if they wanted to be.

The Void elves will very much be the MVPs of Midnight as well. Showing of all the Allied races they’re the ones to have significantly grown in numbers and also rival their predecessor race in power and in victories.

I mean I’m glad you void elf guys have shifted from begging to rejoin the blood elves in Silvermoon to boasting independence from and claiming military superiority over the blood elves in Silvermoon, but let’s not heed those Void whispers too closely.

Umbric begs to join Silverstone this very patch.
Lol.

This is something Blizzard needs to remember and actually show from time to time.
If a group is dabbling with forces as dangerous and manipulative as the Void, they can not just one day master it with no consequences otherwise the danger factor becomes null and meaningless.

Alright, good. Let’s put a marker here and agree that if we see a single Silver Covenant banner this expansion, we’ll all lose our minds.

Also I think it’s a bit of a stretch to suggest that Vereesa Windrunner won’t show up in Midnight, and that I won’t be grinding my teeth for every second she’s on screen without the Purge being mentioned.

No Silver Covenant banner should be displayed in Silvermoon because the group at least functionally is no more.
If banners need to be displayed they should use High Elves former banners prior to the march of the scourge and the switch to Blood Elves.

I actually would be rather annoyed, because it would be poor storytelling that undermines the destruction of Dalaran and express callout nearly everyone was dead.

All scattered High Elves who didn’t get with the Blood Elf program should unite under the Allerian Hold banner and use the unicorn emblem of WC2.

Umbric seems to be sporting Silver Covenant color. So maybe the void elves will join the Silver Covenant and not vice versa :grinning:
