The Sigils were the worst example of macguffins I've seen in a while

The writers were obviously trying to do a Thanos and Infinity Stones thing (as everyone has pointed out since the cinematic yesterday) but failed to properly set them up at all or explain what they even were.

  • First and foremost, if they’re so important why were they not introduced or even mentioned before this patch?
  • The quests don’t even really adequately explain what they are or do. They obviously do more than just be keys to the Sepulcher (another thing they have not explained btw) since the Primus said the Covenants need to forge new ones. But why do they need to? Who knows.
  • If they supposedly give power then why is the Jailer without one so much stronger than all the others who do have one?
  • Within 30 minutes of the quest first informing us of them, Ardenweald’s is stolen. The game treats this as a big deal but we don’t feel any impact because they were literally only just introduced.
  • “Hmm this relic that the Primus wanted to keep hidden is interesting. Here take it into Torghast, the home base of the guy looking for relics belonging to the Eternals, surely nothing can go wrong.”

And here I thought that I’d missed something explaining what, exactly, it was that these things did. I can only assume they’re some sort of Triforce-esque magical artifact that…grants wishes, or something?

Even so, I think people would have been plenty relieved had this been the writing team’s biggest misstep.
