This looks really odd…people in queue for hours on several servers and some are complete ghost towns.
How exactly are they going to do away with layering with so many trying to play on the same realm…I understand the mentality that most players have in that they do not want to be stuck on a dead realm.
Anyone have any estimate of how many players are trying to play on these full realms and are they gonna try to do something to fix this, because no one is transferring to those dead realms…
They didn’t have enough servers when it open, now it’s a problem that isn’t going away.
The issue isn’t layering so much as it is the massive layering exploits going around.
It is clear to me that Blizzard won’t take an honest and community-focused stance on this exploit because to do so would require them suspending the same streamers that bring Blizzard millions of dollars in free advertising. Shame on them.
But how are they going to take the layering out with all the people still trying to play on a handful of realms…I’m not sure how layering works but I’m pretty sure the queue will increase even more when/if they remove it in phase 2…
They opened server transfers. They can basically wash their hands of it now. People who didn’t take the transfer will just have to live with the queues when layering is removed…
I was out questing today and i couldnt see a single horde in my zone. With layering, it literally feels like im playing a dead realm! Hopefully they take out layering and the world will feel MUCH more alive. The queue will be the same as it is now, just the world will feel more populated when everyone is on the same layer.
Massive mega servers may be less authentic, but players love em’…look how everyone is suffering the queue just to play on a big realm and how much everyone enjoyed the nostalrius mega server.
No matter what time I play unless it is after midnight every zone is crowded. Every zone chat has people talking. LFG chat is constantly full of people LFG.
I could not imagine how it would be with no layers. Unlike most though I dont have a problem with having/not having layers. I enjoy trying to tag mobs and teaming up with others to try and beat out the competition.
Blizzard should take on a hands off approach, remove layering, and let the people decide if they wanna play on a super populated server or on a more authentic server cough dead realm cough
Each layer allows another continent’s worth of players on the server, so yes, the removal of layering will increase queue times if the population doesn’t decrease by the time it is removed. We’re effectively playing with mega servers right now; the layering simply separates the population so that each layer appears to be vanilla-like.
It doesn’t affect the queue in anyway. The max concurrent players per server is the same, all layering does is divide the population up into layers so that you don’t have 10k players congregated in the same spot.
Once the player base spreads out across the world they can easily reduce the amount of layers per server until eventually we have just a single layer. Which wont effect queues.
Make additional realms. They have to. If half the people leave we will need roughly 3 times the number of realms we have now to handle the load after layering collapses.
They have 3 new realms that are completely dead. You know why? Because no one wants to play on a realm with 4k people!! We want mega-servers, not heartseeker.
This is true, the newer servers are not gaining in population…we do not need more servers.
I also agree with a post above that says they need to remove layers and let the problem solve itself naturally, or the consequences of layering will be greater come phase 2 when they remove it.
