I’ve noticed that WoW devs have made a habit out of, everytime something goes wrong like players quitting, the game being in a bad state, the community being angry etc. They default to blaming content creators on youtube and twitch for the problems. There’s no accountability or acceptance that they made a bad decision (multiple bad decisions). It’s just an immediate jump to blaming content creators for playing the game and giving their opinion on it from multiple different avenues. If content creators who pvp, pve, raid, mythic+, completionism, open world content etc. are all complaining about the state of WoW is it really all of them conspiring against you?

I blame it on them, they blame it on the streamers, the streamers blame it on their cats, and their cats blame me.

Imagine blaming people who’ve played your game for more than 10 years, have been around longer than some of your employees, and have been documenting in real-time what’s going wrong with your game.
Instead of correcting the problems before they grew bigger.

As long as you look at WoW from the perspective of a frat then it all makes sense,

That isn’t what happened.
The “streamer” said the community he “left” was trash compared to the new supportive one he is embracing. By trash he meant rude or “toxic”.
Someone made a post about how the streamer calling his old community trash has spent years riling up that community and stoking it’s worst tendencies. If the WoW community is “trash” he is Oscar the grouch.
A WoW developer liked that tweet that pointed out the lack of awareness or responsibility of Oscar that he contributed to that enviroment.
Oscar feels personally attacked so he changes his narrative to the “game” being trash and that he is now being attacked for the game being poorly made.
He is an outrage merchant that created an angry mob, he realised he didn’t like how aggressive the mob became and now is moving on and pretending he wasn’t a part or at least a symptom of that angry mob.
Sorry I don’t have a lot of sympathy.
Negativity breeds negativity.
You reap what you sow.

The devs blame streamers because they show the problems of the game to 100,000 people who might check out the game instead of 5,000 people currently playing on the forums or 10,000 people on reddit who are subbed.
Maybe if the devs didn’t repeat the same mistakes they made 4 years ago then those streamers wouldn’t complain.

The largest issue is there’s a pride problem at Blizzard. We saw it in some of the testimonies that have come to light during the lawsuit; a lot of supervisors rejecting ideas from not only women, but men as well. If anyone lower on the totem pole provided an idea, the leaders could just reject them without care. And I think those leaders believe they can do no wrong, that every idea is gold and players will “always come back” (a mantra you see on the forums).
Between what Preach and Bellular said on their videos, too, there’s a disconnect; developers honestly believe that Domination Sockets are an answer/replacement to tier sets and they don’t understand why players dislike them so much. That sort of disconnect really explains the issue.
The reason many dislike streamers there is, regardless of what many on these forums believe, streamers do have a good amount of insight into the game. While sure people like Preach focus on the hardcore end game, there are others who focus on what the casual player deals with. And when their opinions are opposite of the Blizzard developers, they almost feel slighted because these streamers are making money off of the games they make. It’s honestly not surprising that they resent the public faces of their game when their opinions differ.
I think Blizzard has a major pride issue that is hopefully being brought to light during the mess of Shadowlands and the lawsuit. They need to realize that they aren’t infallible and also start listening to players rather than go into an expansion with the mindset “They’ll come around” or “They just need to play it more.”
And Ion in particular needs to quit lying and blaming the player base when something goes wrong.
