After two weeks, I’ve discovered that it’s really productive to auction my r2 and r3 herbs and use the 10s of thousands of gold earned to buy r1 consumables that other ppl made while skilling up their alchemy. I’m not selling my lotuses, though, because they’d have to sell for twice as much as a flask to break even.

As someone with Alchemy, it’s about short term versus long term; you took the short term approach.

I still skilled up my alchemy. My experimentation is finished. I just need more knowledge in alchemy and herbalism. It’s just that r3 herbs sell for a ludicrous amount of gold right now.
I sold all my R3 herbs during the EA phase… it was (by far) the most gold I had ever made on herbs for any ENTIRE expansion, all rolled up into about 4 days.

Wouldn’t the long-term game be selling r3 herbs now because eventually you won’t even need them to max out pots/flasks and bots will have driven down the prices anyway?

Yes because we’ll be gathering a lot more r2 and r3 herbs down the road after the bots have driven down the prices.
Alch wasent that good in DF, after season 1 all flasks where dirt cheap , i have alch but i dont really need gold

I’m sure there will be a market for alchemy drinks like every other expansion
Just look a the guides to see what they are saying is best and prepare as best you can to mass produce those.
In DF I made all my alchemy gold on multiprocs.
Crafting speed is useless for things like alch, get resourcefulness and multi-craft instead.
You might be earning 1g per bottle of drink, but if you selling 5,000-7,000 drinks a day it adds up

Supply and demand.
Everyone is leveling up crafting, eating all the mats on the AH.
Everyone is dumping potions/flasks on the AH, undercutting each other like savages. To the point where everything you make is worth more to a vendor.
Happens every expansion.
Im selling all the rank 1 and rank 3s and keeping the silver ranks for the profession while i wait. My herbalisms in a weird place where im getting all 3 pretty randomly. Then i just use concentration to get the 3 star flasks if i wanna sell those.
For money though i went thaumaturgy, mycobloom became stormdust which was super over priced the last few weeks, made like 100k just buying and converting it for an hour, leather was a decent conversion too since you could get luredrop or arathor which were also pretty expensive.
