So, correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure on a few panels over the years Blizzard said they put content into WoW that no one or very seldom few out of the millions experienced. A hidden quest or few of some kind that would’ve been removed with the revamp. Is this true? And if it is, would it be there to be found and experienced all these years later, finally restored in its proper state?
I can’t seem to find where it’s mentioned. But my google-fu is historically, comically bad at finding things. I don’t know if it’s just a rumor and I’m remembering or if it was actually said.
But isn’t an interesting prospect to think about? Even it it isn’t true, it’s something fun to ponder, what might have been lost. Some quest no one ever found because, maybe you needed to be dead or you had to have an item people thought were useless to trigger an event.
Classic was wild and untamed in its original status and recreations from fans can only do so much and only include things we remember. Even if there is no hidden content I’m excited to tinker around again and see what’s going on, tucked away in the corners of the world.
It’s probably a rumor, but hey who knows. Maybe something will surprise the developers as much as it’ll surprise us in the future.
Naxx was considered by then to be the most unseen content in Vanilla, which might be what you’re thinking of. Very few people managed to clear it or even set foot inside, which is why it was re-released in WotLK.
No, no, some developers said there were hidden quests/ghost quests no one saw, I think around 2010. I did find a MMO champion page talking about it, but all that’s on it now are dead links.
People found out about the Westfall Chicken, the ghost quest in BRD, etc,but there were NPCS that seemed out of place. It could be another trigger like the chicken quest where you need to do some very specific thing to get it to work, or a hidden npc that you can only see while dead. Or under an items effect, like the npc that was found just before Cataclysm Launched of which you needed a specific shaman effect to spot. The Minor Manifestation of Air.
Something no random person or dataminer might’ve not given a second thought to, y’know.
If there was something data mining would of picked it up. I remember seeing stuff like the blades of azzinoth and the uncorrupted ashbringer on allakhazam and thottbot. I don’t think there was anything that rare that few players saw (outside of a bug or glitch) it would of been front page news everywhere like the karazhan crypts.
That’s the thing. It still could’ve been missed with data mining. If it’s a trigger or hidden NPC no one will know it’s a quest since a lot of stuff is stored server side. That stuff could easily be there as they said.
Or maybe it was a wild goose chase or the devs remembered quests that didn’t make it in, like the shriveled troll heart quest which would’ve had you use the heart in Sunken Temple originally at a Troll grave of some kind.
I think it’s very likely, given the messiness of classic wow that there are things that were hidden for the entirety of the game that developers forgot about and people never saw.
People might also pass over generic names, again Minor Manifestation of Air isn’t exactly enticing you to check it out if you’re datamining. Datamining wasn’t as robust either, mind you.
I remeber GMs used to come around with dual blades of azzinoth ( not Illidan’s, rather the Leothoras the Blind variety) , so maybe they cheated and took the quest all to themselves. Usually when you saw them … they also would wipe out all characters within , like, 50 yards too.
Purgation Isle was a place I always enjoyed. They had no use for it till later and during Vanilla before a certain patch it was just level 30 mobs. I think eventually some Dungeon Tier 0.5 stuff was put there. You can still go there and see named mobs and such.
Anyone who didn’t do the AQ40 scepter quest probably never went to Algaz Island or killed Maws. Those were things a very select few did.
And then there is the grave of Grom Hellscream. Or rather his shrine. That was probably the coolest part of the Noggaholic movie for me.
there are a few hidden quests in vanilla that aren’t in the game anymore. I really liked that quest with the sprite darters alliance could get. It was somewhat hidden on the map and sent you to the other side of the world. If you went back to the original quest giver after completing the chain she would give you a pet, that surprised me and was a nice touch.
If that’s the truth, then I hope these quests aren’t talked about by the devs other than they exist and that they’re indeed intact in Classic just as they were.
Yes, I remember finding what you’re talking about when I found Zalashji and wanted to figure out what he was for. There used to be actual screenshots of ticket responses where GMs claimed the way to trigger him hadn’t been found by anyone yet. Until Cata, people were using all sorts of items on him, and the main theory was that he had something to do with the Ashbringer quest line. Unfortunately I tried to find those posts again recently but now all I can find are posts speculating the GM was messing with people and that Zalashji is actually from a quest that was removed in WoW beta. There is apparently a gnome character that similarly has no apparent use.
As for ghost quests, they’re a topic that I’m very interested in. Until now, I only knew of the chicken one. Can someone link me the sprite quest? Does anyone know any others?
