Hello. I’m a Shaman by the name of Kaine who hails from the server Kromcrush. My mage’s name is Ryze.
I am here to discuss something that disturbs me greatly in WoW Classic. I call it the rise of the lazy mage.
Before I enter a dungeon my mage conjures up 60 water for every class that needs water. For those of you who are not very good at math that is 3 stacks. Why do I do this you ask? It is so that people do not ask for more water during the run.
Now…today I joined a group for SM Cath. I was going to be the healer. A mage who shall not be named to protect his identity was in the group. I asked him “Can I please have some water?”. Yes…I even said please. He replied “Nah.” So I did what any self respecting healer would do and I left the group.
I’ve noticed a trend lately of extremely lazy mages. During one SM Armory run where we had a mage in the group…a female warlock had to leave the instance and meet her boyfriend at Undercity so that he could give her water so that she could trade the water to me. When we started the dungeon our mage gave me 9 water. And when I ran out and asked for more he just went mute. He not only did not talk to me, but he refused to respond to the messages by the other group members.
The next mage type I want to talk about is the welfare mage. This mage will give you all the water you want…the only problem is that the water will be 10 to 20 levels below the level that you are currently at. When a welfare mage hands me water…I want to throw that water right back in their face. What a disgrace!
If you are a mage playing classic…please make at minimum 3 stacks of water for your fellow party members. And I don’t mean the cheap stuff that is 10 levels below their level so when they drink its like they’re trying to chug water out of a sippy cup for toddlers…no…I mean the GOOD water…the water that is appropriate for their level.
I have noticed this phenomenon among mages too. The best solution is just buy water from an inn, and don’t take mages in groups.
Casters love it when you do a group without a mage and give them water you bought, they quickly realize how useless mages are once you remove the only real utility they bring to a group outside of sheeping.
Thier dps at 60 is sub par, frost effects just cause slower kills, aoe draws agro instantly which makes healers panic, and now we have attitudes to deal with too.
i dont know who the biggest Classic Prima donna’s are
Warriors when it comes to group dynamics mainly pertaining to reserves
OR
New Breed of Economist Mages who want to charge group members for water during a run.
in vanilla Mages charged for ports/water but never really with there dungeon groups but in Classic the amount of times i have seen the mage try and charge a group member for water at the start of a dungeon or the entire group for a port at the end of a dungeon…
I also play on Kromcrush and both characters of yours that you mentioned by name, I have personally grouped with. You are a jerk in groups. So, I’m going to hazard the guess that you weren’t getting water because you were being impolite.
As an aside, did you try training mobs on the group that you left as you made your exit, like you do when you don’t get your way on your other characters?
I always give waters to my dungeon groups to anyone that needs them. The only reason I can think of for lowbie mages not wanting to give out waters is because when you get a new rank of conjure water, you start out making 2 at a time. It will take an entire mana pool to make a stack. Then you have to drink to full to do it again. It’s kind of annoying. Once you level up, it goes to 4 then 6, etc.
That being said, if a mage gets invited to a group, they should just go ahead and start making those waters. It usually takes some time to get everyone assembled, so there is ample time. Sorry you met with so many stingy mages OP!
This is so boring to read. I’m sorry that you have crappy pug luck or that your realm sucks (assuming it’s not you), but quit trying to act like this is some moving trend. In addition to myself, I have NEVER been in any pug (and I only pug) with another mage that would refuse anything. But I’m not going to pretend that their aren’t bad mages.
The point is that these threads are silly. The people who do this don’t give a crap about it so who are you advising? And frankly, I’m sick of people running down other people’s classes because they’ve had some bad experiences.
You do realize that you don’t learn the next tier of food/water the moment you out level the previous one and not everyone ports back every time a new skill is available right? Also the highest tier of water requires a DM quest to have…
Lazy mages and lazy Druids. Druids who don’t even spot heal to save the tank and die in cat form . Mages who start blizzard if there is two mobs. Cry if you mark for sheep.
Though I know it was a good business decision to have Classic share a sub with Retail, it really shows the difference in culture.
You’d have better luck trying to get water out of a desert stone than you would out of half the mages I ended up grouping with in 5mans.
My favorite is when you (and probably the other casters in the group) ask them politely and they do not respond. So you ask again, and again, and again in more awkward ways over the next few minutes until they finally give you some. But it’s one stack, so you blow through that and need to go through the exact same song and dance 1-2 more times later on.
I mained a mage for awhile in vanilla and if I didn’t give my groupmates enough water to last the entire instance and then some for the road, I felt that I had failed at my job.
This is absolute facts people don’t realize how agonizing it is to make water at the lower levels and you just spent an evocation and 5 minutes just to make 60 new ranks of water only for people like this guy to demand 3 stacks, you’ll never even be able to finish the dungeon because you can’t make enough for yourself. This crap always annoyed me, obviously at 60 it isn’t an issue since I make 10 a spell cast but before at certain levels it was annoying af to give people water at 2 per
On top of that if you ever played mage you know that people never wait for you, they’ll demand water run you completely oom and without waiting for you to drink or make new water for yourself they run ahead so you’re sitting their with your e peen in your hand looking like a fool oom and waterless doing no dps
Not like it even takes a full stack of water to do any wing of SM. I have healed Armory, under leveled and off speced, using less than half of one of my stacks of water without breaking a sweat.
I have never ran into this. Usaully mages give me food without asking. I dont reallly use it but its nice to have. I am a diva i get all the items i items i want.
That’s a sub-optimal solution. The best water you can get from an inn is level 45 and restores 2934 mana over 30 seconds. The 4000 mana restoring mage water is leaps and bounds faster so if the group doesn’t want to have to constantly stop to wait for upwards of a minute for the other casters to regain mana… they really should be giving the casters their fix.
I don’t know about other casters but I, currently at level 56 with not the greatest gear, have 4300 mana meaning if I oom to keep everyone alive through the fight it’s going to take almost 60 seconds for me to mana up.
