Why did they wait the lowest point of the expansion to do that? Imagine how better the expansion would be received if thet make this decision in the beta.
Why?

In 9.1.5 we are working on additional updates to a variety of class talents and class abilities including Conduits, Runecarving, and Covenant class ability tuning.
Does this mean tuning / updates will be done to classes at a class / spec level, or does the “including” indicate these changes will only be made at the covenant level?
As a Demon Hunter, I’m anxiously awaiting some class design improvements at the baseline / talent level.
I’m glad I will finally have the option to embrace my Venthyr side whilst using spells of another covenant. I’ve been one of the 9 warlocks that stubbornly refused to leave Venthyr
They often lack a spine to stick to their guns.
Blizzard wilt in the face of any real pressure and do things that undermine their own design based on player feedback. People will talk about how annoying it is to travel back to town to swap Covenant etc for different forms of content when they themselves asked for the ability to swap Covenants.
You see it constantly. People talk about “abandoned systems” and the reason Blizzard is infamous for abandoning systems is that they react to the feedback towards these systems instead of sticking to their guns and iterating. They tried iterating in 9.0.5 and 9.1 but people still whined and now Covenants are going to be simply another abandoned system.
Oh, and do not be mistaken folks, Blizzard WILL add a new system in 9.2 now that Covenants are being phased out. Blizzard isn’t just going to completely abandon some of the goals that Covenants accomplished, they’re simply going to be integrated into a new system.
Yes, you were part of the “very few.”
I hope this means what so many of you clearly think it does. But I get the feeling what they means if the 2 week quest that you would normally have to complete to rejoin a previous covenant is gone. But you will still need to develop each covenant as you currently do. That would still be an amazing change in itself and give us something to put all this spare anima into.
Dude. the covenant system sucked for druids especially. They had 4 specs. You only had 3 soulbinds. The removal of conduit energy and the ability to covenant swap actually makes it better overall. I was straight up annoyed how soulbinds had to share a covenant soulbind. Now you might just have to swamp covenants which isn’t so bad. I would hope blizz works it so you can have a saved covenant per spec, that would be cool as all specs would be able to have there own soulbinds.
It was a nightmare for many classes. I know as a DH I wanted to be Kyrian for VDH and NF for Havoc, at least now I can do that! And I previously Kyrian, so I have a head start if I actually do need to level up that covenant.
when you get a bit older, you’re going to discover a sad truth: most people are pretty bad at their job.
I still can’t swap because I’ll lose my Ember Court rep and I’ll have to grind renown again for my soulbinds and stamps bonuses.
Just make the new abilities a talent row sheesh.
How much older do you want me to get?! I grew up and worked in a time before the fancy internet.
Oh I already know that which is why I don’t work with anyone anymore.
I had made a kyrian monk. My tank spec wanted pelagos. And so did my ww pve spec and pvp spec. Yea that was horrible. Glad that some of my alts will have a better time. These things encourage me to lvl more characters. I am going to start lvling more alts since they can skip the campaign in the next patch. I feel like actually playing my alliance character now. The campaign stuff made me not want to lvl alts lol… and refarming the anima…
Why would you lose your ember court rep?
Just an off hand example.
This isn’t a true ripcord if you still lose all of your anima, soulbinds, renown, flavour reps, etc. Everytime you swap.
I can’t just swap Venthyr and Fae for raid night because I’ll still have to grind renown for the bonuses.
It’s not that we’re bad, it’s that after years of fighting for basic decency and respect in the workplace, watching suck-ups get the bonuses and promotions, and being screwed over for a fair wage while CEO make millions off our work, we just don’t care anymore and only put in the bare minimum so entitled people feel they are not getting their ‘deserved’ special treatment and so see us a bad instead of adequate.
(I think that is my record for a run-on sentence Mrs Peters from third grade would be so proud.)
They said they are changing how renown works too after you reach a certain renown level though? I mean I already have 4 main guys one of each covenant to max renown. So that’s not an issue if you have that already I guess?
“When playing alternate characters, if you have already completed a given Covenant’s campaign on a different character, you will be able to immediately earn the Renown and third soulbind unlock without needing to replay the full narrative arc.”
It doesn’t take me a year to admit I was wrong and make the change needed. They received the feedback in alpha and beta and let the game not only go live like this but actively fought against the players trying to tell us why we should be okay with it. And that went on over a year.
So yeah, they should release it right the first time next time. Instead of actively ignoring feedback.
Bring back input broadcasting.
They specifically mention
That as well as the ability to swap “without restriction” implies to me swapping and keeping what you earned if you swap back.
After going through and reading all of the changes coming, one this has become completely apparent:
Blizzard is now in absolute panic mode with World of Warcraft. Things must be REALLY bad with the subscription numbers for them to be doing this.
