The Red Crystals (WoD Question)

In Warlords of Dreanor, the draenei followers of Socrethar form the Sargerai and devote themselves to the worship of the dark title Sargeras.

They build themselves a Temple of Tyranny (as you do) and theme themselves with demon appropriate green fel crystals. No, RED crystals. Do we have the deal with this? Why are these crystals red? What are these crystals? Are they fel in nature, or are they channeling some other power source?

Is this just a thematic inversion of the classic draenei blue/purple crystals? An attempt to break up the over-use and monotony of fel-green that occurred between the end of Warlords and the entirety of Legion? Are these draenethyst crystals? Remember those?

I tried to look up some details on these crystals but didn’t turn up much.

There seems to be an aspect of corruption when it comes to the red Draenic crystals (or more accurately, Naaru crystals). You see them in Bloodmyst, which is far more affected by the crash of the Exodar than Azuremyst or Silvermyst, and there’s a repeatable quest that allows you to turn in those crystals that drop from the local wildlife.

The Sargerei, as we’ve seen, are more inverse of Draenic culture as opposed to the exact opposite like the man’ari. Tyrant Velhaari is an anti-paladin, who uses Seals and Auras just like a paladin, but all about domination and demoralization. The Sargerei are essentially Draenei culture but perverted for the sake of following the Legion, so still distinct from that of the man’ari eredar, at least by the time we get to the end of WoD.

There was probably more lore/backstory planned but it likely was cut, so all we have is speculation.

It’s a form of Disorder Magic of the same sort infecting the Emerald Nightmare(the Felwort Herbalist Questlines make it clear that the same corruption infecting Felwort is infecting the Nightmare not to mention Archimonde drops the Remnant of Chaos which is stated to be the same corruption as the Rift of Aln’s I.E Il’gynoth’s), Mythic Argus and Sargeras’s Sword.

Red Disorder Magic is interesting to say the least as the only other forms of Disorder Magic we know of are Green Fel Magic and Purple Warp Magic(the Arcane Disorder Energies of the Netherstorm).

The Red Disorder Magic seems to be Necromantic Disorder Magic just like how Blood Magic is Necromantic Life Magic and the Green Death Magic is Necromantic Death Magic.

If I made a Cosmology Chart I would have each Cosmic Force with their Magic Schools orbiting around them:

  1. Death would have Nature(Tirnenn in the Orb), Arcane(Kyrian in the Orb), Shadow(Venthyr in the Orb) and Necromantic(Undead in the Orb)
  2. Life would have Necromantic(Vectis in the Orb), Arcane(Moon in the Orb) and Nature(Cenarius in the Orb)
  3. Shadow would have Necromantic(Shadowmoon Orc in the Orb), Shadow(N’raqi in the Orb) and Nature(Fungal Giant in the Orb)
  4. Light would have Holy(Naaru in the Orb)
  5. Order would have Arcane(Nightborne construct in the Orb), Holy(Tyr in the Orb) and Nature(Ysera in the Orb)
  6. Disorder would have Fel(Demon in the Orb), Arcane(Nether Drake in the Orb) and Necromantic(Nightmare Ancient in the Orb)

I think you might be putting more thought into it than the writers themselves are, but I do like your explanation.
