The REAL WoW Killer?!

WoW is in it’s death throes now, ActiBlizz did a fine job of killing it. Their newest fad of turning World of Warcraft into World of Wokecraft is pushing it deeper and deeper into it’s tomb. Like EQ, it will hang around for a while, in fact, EQ is still around, but it won’t be World of Warcraft anymore and hasn’t been for a long time now. /spit

Yep. Amazing how many people are in denial and spouting nonsense like “WoW will never die”.

The reality is WoW had no competition for years. It was bad, but it was the only legit MMO around.

Now you have FF14 that Asmongold(literally the biggest WoW streamer) is playing.
You have New World coming out.

WoW is not the only option anymore.

1 Why does it matter if asmongold is playing ff14 .
2 He is a content maker and he is doing his bussiness .
3 The game should be fun to you instead of following somebody else’s footprints .
4 And ofc wow will die one day but you see people have been saying wow is gonna die and here we are ,So basically when someone says wow is gonna die it automatically goes to spam :stuck_out_tongue:

The next Wow killer will be the lack of transparent and frequent communication between those designing/working on the game and players. Without ongoing constructive conversation things will keep declining. There needs to be open communication between those who work on the game and those who pay to play it.

As for your first point, I just want to say that I don’t understand why people think him playing that game means he’s left WoW forever. He literally still plays WoW, and has repeatedly said he has no intention of quitting WoW.

You’re right, and he is just making content. I feel bad for him only in the sense that for so long he’s been stuck playing JUST WOW every day of his life as a streamer because he was afraid of the viewership loss, and his FFXIV content has proven that he can do other things. That doesn’t mean he’s leaving WoW, and people should stop acting like he’s completely abandoned it.

On another note I was completely surprised that he actually gave FFXIV a fair shake and a great review (at least for the ARR content, I haven’t been keeping up to what he’s done in game since then), but he also did a big community nono when he did an interview with a modder.

It never was .

Even the game that it supposedly killed Everquest is still around and had it’s current expansion released shortly after Shadowlands was released.

EverQuest: Claws of Veeshan is the twenty-seventh expansion pack to EverQuest . It was announced on October 14, 2020 in a producer’s letter on the game’s official website. A continuation of the story from the previous expansion, Torment of Velious , the plot involves the player challenging the dragons and undead creatures who roam the frozen lands of Velious. It features six new zones along with new quests, raids, missions, and alternate advancement abilities for each class, as well as a new Dragon’s Hoard offering additional storage space.[25] Claws of Veeshan was proceeded by a beta test period which took place in October 2020, with a final release on December 8, 2020

You mean when the forums are infiltrated by employees?

Pretty much. I’m sure soon we will see an insider/whistleblower leak information about how the devs think theres too many White people playing WoW.

“We need a more diverse playerbase, I’m sick of these Whites playing WoW” “Can’t we just make Anduin and Jaina Black already? Theres too much White privilege in this game”

What I’ve always said it would be:

WoW.

I dont normally quote stuff about Final Fantasy (because its not a game I liked) but it is an example of how a game can be saved if someone has the guts to do what has to be done to save it.

Im not suggesting Blizzard close down the serves, rip out the guts of the game and start from scratch. However, they can work with what they have, fix the broken parts and take us back to fun gameplay with creativity, new ideas and cherrypicking the best ideas from other sources, as well as coming up with their own good stuff. They’ve done it in the past, there’s no reason they cant do it again.

FFXIV is thriving… specifically because people are frustrated with WoW & Blizzard and it’s the most comfortable ship to jump to.

Which is literally my point. The MMO market isn’t growing. It’s just MMO players shifting around.

New World? Unless it ends up being some kind of unprecedented success, I expect nothing more than your typical MMO launch. Meaning: Hyped because its new and MMO players want something new, but not something that’s going to make waves once the “new game” hype wears out. But we’ll see I guess.

People did not suddenly stop enjoying MMOs in 15 years dude, WoW was successful for a reason.

The reality is if its done right you will get new players and also old players returning.

Even up until a few years ago WoW was one of the top streamed games on Twitch, especially at the start of expansion.

You also forgot Betty White.
