The real reason many of my friends left

Okay, this is the general consensus from the majority of people I talked to on why they left, it’s simply that that the time between patches is taking a bit too long.

And btw when I say ‘patch’ I mean a REAL patch with new content etc, not the filler patch that we had recently with 9.05. I am not saying the systems in 9.05 are bad, but let’s be honest, it’s not a content patch it’s just a convenience patch.

I know what Blizzard tried to do was time gate much of the content in the current patch with the covenant campaign etc, and while I wasn’t against this, the fact is that as soon as you done covenant campaign, that’s it you’re done.

The reality though is that is that a lot of people said that they will come back at 9.1…so…when is it coming out? What I worry about is that if 9.1 doesn’t even come out until June 2 months after the 9.05 patch, that will mean we’ve literally had over 6 months of 0 new content.

I mean to be fair I guess we could blame this whole thing on corona virus and corona restrictions and whatnot, but I am not sure if this is a good enough excuse considering FF14 manages to still release new content quickly, I mean if you take a break from FF14 for about 4 months tops, you can guarantee you will have lots of new content to log into, but WoW has had this problem for years, where you can have a LOT of time between patches with nothing new to do, I mean I get there are things like giving people time to get AOTC for the raids etc, but I think in early expansion most people don’t care about AOTC anyway as never any mount reward for clearing the early patch raids let’s be honest.

But btw, I am VERY excited about 9.1 I can’t wait to see what happens and the big reveal for what happens with Syvlanas and the Jailer etc it’s the main reason I’ve stayed behind as that storyline is worth the wait, it’s one of the things that’s been the most enticing about the story line recently as the whole situation with Sylvanas/the Jailer has kept us guessing.

The problem though is the meantime, losing friends and guildmates, and when that happens the only people left to talk to are the clowns from trade chat/LFG etc, which is fine for a bit of comic relief, but just like on this forum trash-talk while amusing eventually gets out of hand, and you realize you may as well just tag along with your closest friends to some of the other games that are hot right now.

Anyway, the point is that I think this is the model Blizzard should stick to with future expansions, say about 4 months tops between patches, not every single patch needs to be a full on raid patch, for instance way back in MOP they had two non-raid patches, 5.1 and 5.3, but 5.1 was absolutely fantastic where they released the whole domination point/lion’s landing, then 5.3 was the rebellion where we rose up against Garrosh, I think that was a good way to balance out the time a little more, basically if they release new content for the first year of an expansion every 4 months then the final nine months of the expansion to give people time to focus on the last raid, I think that model works a bit better?

After months of time-gating, people realized that it doesn’t actually become more fun as time goes on. That’s just a lie to keep people playing. The whole point of time-gating is to disguise the fact that they don’t have enough fun content to make the game thrive on its own.

If only they made the open world larger, with more quests. If only they dropped some of the focus on M+ and mythic raiding to put more time into the part of the game that millions once subscribed for. If only they learned that most people don’t play video games to feel punished for playing their own way and constantly behind.

Don’t necessarily disagree. Most of my own friends left because simply, game time + the cost of an expansion wasn’t worth the money they were dropping.

When all you get is a few months worth of actual content after all the patches are released, You realize that you’re paying the same price for less product. Or just for that “Free” character boost.

I’m kinda happy CN is going to be 6 months long because it’s a much longer and harder opening raid than the last few.

As for people quiting? Eh, anecdotal but I have a group of friends that come back for every expansion all pumped up to play WoW and quit within the first few months because they realize at the end of the day, it’s still WoW and the core game is the same. If they don’t want to play WoW a new expansion isn’t going to change their mind.

This was way bigger with classic. My friends list exploded with people I haven’t seen in ages. I had 9 RL friends come back for it. Everyone was pumped picking their toon, questing, doing RFC and Wailing Caverns. Was awesome.

Only 2 RL friends ever made to 60. By the 3rd month almost everyone that came back for classic was gone again. One was a work friend who basically said after a few weeks he just couldn’t take the grind, wasn’t fun.

Back to SL, I’m hoping for a June release. I’m also hoping a 2 month delay in the first patch translates to a 2 month reduction in final tier drought.

On the topic of “changing work conditions”, SE got their act together REAL QUICK and managed to get everyone working from home comfortably, however there were costs. Every year FF14 has a “halloween storyline” that adds to the previous year. Last year, they had to cut that out due to covid changing workplace and made it more generic.

Blizzard on the other hand took longer to adapt and change and get people working from home.

they’re paying for one expansion.
once upon a time, players needed to purchase ALL the expansions to play current content.

…or they could just play the game, instead of purchasing the most expensive option available.

Well I don’t know what county makes FF14, I’m guessing Japan? I honestly don’t know what the covid situation is there, but I have heard that Japanese people have this thing I like to call manners that is sorely lacking elsewhere in the world, so I would assume they are in a better spot due to that.

Fair point that Castle Nathria is a bit of a longer raid then we usually get on expansion release btw.

There is also literally nothing to do unless you want to grind for gear, and the grind is terrible.

Before people come in saying “you can farm old mounts and blah blah”, returning to previous xpac content does not count as being current content for the xpac we’re in.

Or they can feel like they weren’t getting their money’s worth either way. It’s almost like this should be a personal choice left open for the individual to decide what is best for them. Not what others believe is the best option For them.

Saw a video that said in some expac, the time between patches were 77 days for the entire expac. That seems pretty good. Idk what happened to that.

Was it legion?

Blizzard would need to invest more into those kinds of patches but I don’t see it happening. They could go the “Ever quest” route or just continue to build out as ready.

Personally I am okay with dry spots but I liked the legion 77 days, or whatever it was, intervals and I think that should be a standard to try and keep.

after having now completed twisting corridors, having multiple legendaries maxed out. having done the raid and just logging in the try to get gear once a week from the great vault.

what else is there to do this xpack?

torghast is a literal waste of time on my main now. i have the mount, and the only challenge i have for myself is doing a torghast run without taking any powers and see if you can complete upper and lower without taking anything. im sure its entirely possible, because the monk powers overall are super SUPER weak and barely add anything to your power output.

i quit serious raiding at the beginning of BFA because after having high end raided since the very beginning of the game, its just lost its shine. now that raid leaders just expect 1700 addons to play the game for you, blizz just keep coming up with more and more stupid mechanics to try to break the addons. the fights just got more and more convoluted over time.

pvp, lol as if blizz care about pvp.

and theres no much else going on this xpack. the maw is a joke. the covenants just kinda hit a brick wall with content and they end up resulting in just dumping anima into a well to build some buildings that dont really do all that much.

the xpack is bare bones. i havnt logged in for days now, because theres no point. its boring, the content is boring, theres nothing really fun or rewarding to do. i really hope blizz can turn this around. theres a lot of potential in shadowlands, but man are they really missing the mark here. and we wont be seeing that .1 patch for months to come still. thats pretty disastrous considering the massive lack of fun content there is to do atm.

of course they wouldn’t get their moneys worth if they choose the most expensive option in order to skip 99% of the game.

just curious, but what have you spent your time doing at endgame during other expansions?

Nothing lol, I clear the raid on heroic and maybe pvp but I usually will cancel my sub in between patches.

Legion was the last time I played through the patches consistently just because warrior felt so good to play.

so if you have no idea of the endless amount of things to do, yet want to loudly proclaim that there is only one thing to do.

makes perfect sense.

if you only want to do one thing, that’s fine.
but why pretend there’s nothing else to do?

what do you WANT to be able to do?

tl;dr

can I have your friends gold?

You couldn’t be more wrong lmao. I know exactly what there is to do. Farm mythics, raids, honor for gear. Farm professions for money. Farm old content for old cosmetics.

What do you do in between patches?

that was a pretty big jump straight into old content there…

…what about all the other endgame stuff?
plus i’m curious about this one:

i find ways to keep myself entertained.
i’ve never once felt the need to complain about having nothing to do.

Like…?

I’m not complaining lol. I cancel my sub and do other stuff. I didn’t make this thread

Anyone else feels like the Wow team has been reduced to a skeleton crew this expansion? It should not have been this limited with content. Feels like they split the team into Classic devs and Retail devs and just told them to work twice as hard.
