Now as you all may know we have been have been seeing less players online some believe that WoW is dying or FFXIV is stealing the subs that is not the case the truth is MMORPGs as well as other online games are having a slump really and it is for a simple reason.
Due to the pandemic a lot of people have been forced to stay indoors. When someone has nothing to but play videogames for almost a whole year even the most hardcore of gamers can suffer from burnout. Now that a vaccine is out people now feel safe to go outside and enjoy the things they could not have normally done due to the Pandemic. So can you blame them for stepping away from their PCs for a bit?
So do not worry about the subscriber loss eventually eventually balance will return.
That could be because of the Pandemic as well. When it comes to making a game not everything can be done on a home computer so Blizzard has to take steps to keep their employees safe and this may cause slower content updates.
OP has some truth to what he said. I know of players who are taking a break because they are out and about since vaccine is available or living in non-vaccine-mandated states (in the US). So, for those whom I know, there will be a combination of content drought, some who are burned out, or just want to go and enjoy the weather (at least in the northern hemisphere, when they can). I donât know too many people on the Southern hemisphere, I canât vouch for them leaving WoW. But I can assume, they are also doing things they want besides computer/console games.
MMOs went into a big boom due to the pandemic. Iâve seen so many people combust over making their quarantine mmo their only game. I am very guilty of this myself.
WoWâs content drought hurts it more than others, but my entire FC on FFXIV have all moved to different games because we went a little too hard with all this at home time we had since the start. Logging into that game just feels like too much to bother with and does not inspire joy. Mostly resentment from broken promises, half finished patches, and lack of good content.
I encourage many people right now to play other games if they have been using WoW as their main. This isnât the usual âtake a break!â this is a very serious âwe have been logged in way too long, please unsub for your sanityâ kind of advice.
Another expansion on a downhill trajectory, coupled with multiple bad decisions from ActiBlizz.
My thoughts are that more and more players are done with it and moving on to other games that arenât managed in that way.
Devs that want you to play the game the way they see fit instead of just wanting you to play the game is a big downward trend with WoW.
Iâm flipping the switch and going full casual.
I will play through the story and maybe some low m+ if my guildies come back, after that if I forget to resub then so be it.
Stuff irl has been way more interesting than this game as of late. To get players back and retain them there needs to be a shift of the dev mindset⊠cause this aint it chief.
TBH this is a bigger contributor than anything. People keep expecting WoW to be their only game and to provide 100% of their entertainment and then get upset when they run out of things to do or they get burned out.
But thatâs just not realistic. Especially since Blizzard have moved away from infinite grinds in Shadowlands, which for all itâs flaws is still something Iâll praise them for.
but the assumption is that any of those folks were playing WoW.
No one has to UNsub from the game just to go outside.
The OPs logic is faulty from the first word.
Retail is not living in a content drought so much as they are living in a casino game. Go back to TBC and you will notice and quickly what you have lost and what those of us that have came back have gained.
HonestlyâŠmaybe THAT is what Im liking better about old content instead of the last couple expansions.
Feels like the difference between the taste in a microwaved baked potato and one baked in a real oven.
YeahâŠthe nuked tater is ok and edible, but hasnt developed the full flavor that one baked in a hot oven for an hour does.
While that may be true to a small extent, there is generally not a burn out during the very first phase of a new expansion. Even with working-from-home or whatever, there was enough stuff to do in the past to keep you interested until the first patch came out.
The problem with Wow is that the first phase is incredibly long, the content is arguably some of the least interesting in the game to date and people are getting tired of it a lot faster.
The game takes you places and you forget about what youâre doing. Then you get another quest and your like damn I want that one too but I am way over here doing this!
Basically you have to chose paths because there is so much you canât really ever do it all. In retail they boil that fun all down to a meta then for fun add time to it so that you may not have for long.
Good exampleâŠIons attempt to remove flight.
Screw the playerbase loving itâŠWE say you want to be flightless. lol.
And we all saw how that went downâŠand certainly there was a minority of players cheering it on.
Exactly what I did.
IF and when they start making good storylines again and leave out the hokey mechanix âŠSTUNâŠROOTâŠSLOWâŠon every stinking beastie just to slow me down and call it âcontentââŠI might actually get interested in doing everything in the expansion, as I was determined to do THIS time and precisely why I ONLY brought in ONE character into the SLs content to play so I wouldnt have any distractions and could focus solely on one character.
YeahâŠthat idea bombedâŠ
I did like a lot about classic when I ran thru some of the content a while back.
What I didnt likeâŠas usualâŠwas player behavior. lol.
And in classic it seems to be a lot more noticeable when you get those griefer sorts. In retail I can just hop on a flying mount and go do other things.
If I could play the game without the irritation of other players Id probably play it a lot more.
