The real question about treasure chests

Why are they so crummy? I just looted a chest in burning steps surrounded by level 54 elites, having to solo three of them, for it to contain 17 silver and level x3 level 22 mana potions.

This is NOT authentic. I specifically remember on my rogue in vanilla I would go through scarlet monastery pick pocketing and looting chests. They nearly 100% of the time contained at least one green and around 10% of the time had a blue in them.

They nerfed chests in Vanilla but you are right they did used to give a lot better loot.

From memory chests in dungeons always had more consistently good loot than open world chests.

Lol. Let me give you the short version of my favorite vanilla story. On my first character, at around level 15 I went exploring. It was a horrible mistake and I ended up spirit rezzing in searing gorge. In my attempts to get out of searing gorge, I discovered a chest. I thought for sure a chest this high level would fund my wildest dreams for ages to come… so I tried to open it.

I musts have died 20 times trying to open that chest, but I finally got it open. After all that work I was rewarded with a couple silver and a few pieces of cheese.

If you think the current chests are not authentic you need to stop looking through your rose colored glasses.

It is has everything to do with RNG, so I am not sure how you can say that it is not authentic?!?

Some of the time people are selectively leaving the moist cornbread. As a dwarf (without herbalism or mining), I open a lot of chest. The ones without a couple of silver have been looted by someone already taking the better stuff.

Weird. The ones I’ve been looting have all had a green in them.

You quite sure you don’t mean “on a private server”?

I purposefully leave only a piece of cheese in them.

Chest loot has pretty much always been pretty underwhelming. The loot you get in classic matches the balancing I saw in Vanilla perfectly.

If as others have claimed there were early nerfs, it was because farmers were running bots in Azshara and such, just doing loops looting all the chests with minimal mob or player competition.

Most chests I find have a bit of food, a bit of silver, and usually either some gemstone I could have gotten through mining or potions.

I think of them as bonuses along a route rather than something to go scouring for. Maybe that’s why I don’t feel exactly underwhelmed by them.

In vanilla sm chests did give a ton of greens and sometimes blues.

I farmed this place for days to get my epic mount.

Now days it seems that doing 40+ yield a ton of white/grey items that give a lot more gold.

Not sure which patch things changed, since in vanilla I played from the start and not on a 1.13 patch.

I’ve gotten 3 blue boes from chests so far. Keep poppin em open

We also have to consider the population size.

They said big servers in Vanilla were ~3,000? Now we’re 50,000+? If we kept the loot tables the same the economy would be oversaturated.

theyve always been pretty garbage. that said finding a few waters and foods in there is pretty good loots JMHO

I carry cheese at all times so I can put some in.
