The real problem with Pservers, How will classic fix it?

Aside from the obv it being illegal to host Pserver. My biggest complaint with them is that a new one comes out every 6 months to a year destroying population on existing realms. How will blizzard resolve this issue? People will always complain that they are behind and want a new realm to “catchup”, instead of just using the catchup mechanics Blizzard implemented in vanilla. This then leaves the players who have put the time in to get where they are, in an empty server.

Would love some input from Blizz on how they will be releasing servers, and if they are just Ok with killing progressed servers when players begin to complain about being behind?

What catchup mechanics were in vanilla for those players that started late ?

Progressive itemization, DM, ZG, AQ 20, PVP Gear update. All just to help people compete with others that had played longer.

Oh. I never considered any of that as “catch up”.

Don’t misunderstand me. I am not saying it was the sole reason these things were added, but they definitely were also a catch up mechanic.

I would like to know their server release plan as well as I think it will have a great effect on the Classic experience. Healthy server communities are essential for a good experience.

PServers will - largely - stop being made when Classic comes out.

Why go through the effort when the product is actually available now? It’s not like it’s massively overpriced. Most people do PServers because there’s a chance to play Classic - the only chance. But when you have the specter of having it all deleted hanging over your head vs playing on the official thing would you really want to?

I’m sorry, but I don’t think you read my post in its entirety.

This is more about the F R E S H mentality rather than pservers as a whole.

Yes, I did - you apparently didn’t read mine.

Edit: Maybe I didn’t. They’ll do the same thing they did originally: They’ll stop releasing them until theres enough demand.

There is something special about starting all over again with everyone else.
I actually did that back in vanilla once or twice when they brought new servers online.

The question here is how Blizzard will be releasing their servers, to maintain a high player base on existing servers. Has nothing to do with the existence of Pservers after classic releases.

2004 to 2006 vanilla had FRESH servers. I remember some servers being introduced near the AQ event, and I’m sure more were released later. This was done to meet skyrocketing populations, and I’m sure if populations increase again, then new servers will created before the end of vanilla’s traditional lifespan. Blizzard, however, has specifically stated that they aren’t ready to announce their post-vanilla plans, so we do not know if they intend to relaunch fresh Classic servers purely to provide fresh servers.

Thanks for the reply. I really hope Blizzard gives a definite release schedule. Something like “seasons” on servers, so that a player can know ahead of time whether its worth their time investment. Personally if I know servers will be releasing yearly, I won’t put the time in. If they were to release Bi-Yearly, OK maybe I would invest the time. Even this time frame is limiting the ability for players to actually use their T2.5/3 for anything beyond progression.

Anyways please Blizz provide us a server release timeline prior to or at Classic launch.

I think they should just release fresh servers ever 1.5 to 2 years or so. It’ll be a shame if they don’t.

Catch up, aka being ran through MC on sat night PUG run by Exo.

For sure. The first two RP realms I rolled on, Sentinels and Blackwater Raider, were both opened up around the time of the Naxx release and their AQ events came some months later.

However, the big difference during vanilla was that NEW players, people who had not yet played, were constantly coming in. There were about 200,000 accounts created Day 1. Over the two years, that climbed gradually up to the 8 million that existed when BC was released.

I suspect there will be a lot less people who want to play WOW: Classic but don’t start early on, and there definitely won’t be an astronomical climb similar to vanilla days. Those of us who don’t choose to start early on will be doing so for reasons and probably not care as much about catchup.

Which means the real issue isn’t Pservers - it’s a specific subgroup who like and actively promote constant “fresh” servers. There are enough people I’ve seen who talk about being glad they can work toward BiS in every slot and never worry about starting over.

Honest question- is it “illegal” to host a private server AND play on one, or is it just “illegal” to host one?

so not to derail my own thread, but my understanding it is illegal to Host the server. It is also illegal to download the 1.12 client to play (VPN must be used to torrent). Once the client is downloaded and you set your login to the Pserver, the VPN is no longer needed to play. My assumption would be if it were illegal to play, Internet Provider’s would give people a hard time for connecting to the server. Would be easy enough for the Internet Providers to monitor as the IP probably never changes. (the domain name at least never changes)

Be nice if they released fresh servers every now and then, only problem I have is sharding on classic release waiting 2 weeks for sharding to go away defeats the purpose of authentic experience especially how they haven’t confirmed much detail on it.
Its ok if people who want sharding wait 2 weeks after release so massive flood that they think will happen seeing how some have been saying 100 thousand people or millions of people in starting areas.
Because they don’t want authentic.

People who do play privates or have been waiting for classic may flock to them if blizz doesn’t deliver authentic experience for those who wants it.

Blizz servers are suppose to be permanent so, it shouldn’t harm them if privates open up unless the people who want a fresh experience want another type of one.

Having a fresh server event always sounds fun so yeah be nice if they would add 1.
I don’t really see any point to getting gear if your not going to use it in pvp because there isn’t any points to having factions if people don’t do that.

If I was on a realm like that again i’d probably try to recruit everyone left onto one guild.
But is the server really empty is what you have to confirm even small servers have good communities or use to.
In cataclysm my server or faction became empty do to faction change server transfer people all going to new servers where all the pve folk were going, it kinda eventually recovered but it probably won’t be as bad as long as they don’t add that feature.

Can’t really stop the fresh mentality and shouldn’t try to, its a different type of entertainment especially when you leave a server that you joined late to or unbalanced.
Just limit realm transfers or not allow them some people hate leveling so they won’t ever make a new toon on one even if you get 200% more exp.
