So wait we don’t want the game to be like the old days anymore?
Precedent for the story so far, set by the initial weekly story unlocks at the expansion launch, says that the “story” is going to be something along the lines of the NPCs saying “Let’s regroup and try again next week”.
That having been said, I am hoping that they prove me wrong and have it be something really cool. The chances of “something really cool” are so narrow as to be nearly zero, though.
Hopefully it makes more sense then when they did this in Wrath. I will not judge the story decision until after I see what the story actually is but it does feel more like its aimed at split raids.
ICC and SWP timegates were some of the worst timegates they’ve ever done lol.
People forget the main ICC raid was gated for 2 months, you couldn’t even do Heroic until after you cleared normal either.
So at least 2 months + 1 week to even start attempting heroic.
Yeah, but even that’s better than their excuse for why they delayed unrestricted Covenant switches. If you go “we need to create a plan before we attack” it’s a pretty obvious that’s just there to waste time but there is some story-logic to it (it takes time to strategize and organize, after all).
By the end of the Covenant campaign though, all the immediate problems were solved and they were back to working together. There wasn’t any impending doom they needed our help with, and we were already helping all four with the minor things (eg. callings/WQs) that popped up.
It made no sense story-wise why one Covenant would take it personally that we went to help their allies at that point.
You don’t even raid.
Players are welcome to do normal if they want to see the raid sooner. Not only does it slow gearing down slightly but it also could be used as a tool to push players into more difficult content.
I’m a heroic raider, to me it’s stupid that they lock a whole section of the game out for 2 months. These are not people who are going to do normal. People use the same excuse every time “maybe it’ll push them into doing harder content!” but guess what, it doesn’t.
Be it time, or just not wanting to deal with the politics of raiding beyond LFR, it’s not something they want to deal with. We need our casuals, let them play.
I use to Heroic raid up until like mid-Legion and it’s dumb to me too. It’s not like it counts towards world’s first where the “dirty casuals” might outshine everyone else. It makes no sense.
What does this even mean?
Only thing they’re really doing is trying to protect the Mythic raiders from having to do LFR like the old days.
If they feel the need to do it, that’s their problem.
Man, I like to see anyone clear 8 bosses in one day ,we don’t even know the fight yet and people claim they’ll jump in and finish it.Nope. Most of you guys will only do the first 3 and quite.
Yeah I also don’t understand hand-holding adults.
That has never worked.
Not in the history of the game.
And the very last thing that raiders on higher difficulties even want is to drag along people who are like, “UGH, I hate being here, I hate that the process is so inconvenient, but I’m being forced by the way the game is set up”. It’s terrible game design to force people to do things that they don’t find to be fun, like they’re reluctant toddlers who need to be told to eat their vegetables or they won’t get dessert.
People will quit first, instead of suddenly pulling on their bootstraps and “gitting gud”.
Would be even better if it was 1 new boss added per week for 11 weeks. Watch people really lose their minds. Now thats entertainment.
Some players clear it first day.
Knowing every fight from playing on PTR and just logging on and repeating you mean.
The term “Mary Sue” is given to characters that basically are narratively written such that they are unbeatable no matter what gets thrown at them with little to no exposition as to how they essentially became god-like.
Which brings up the point that if no one will get through it in the first week, why the need for the gate anyway? Seems like they only have part of the story done and won’t have the rest done until later. Because artificial gates work just as well, but don’t give the overall feeling that they’ve just applied gates to everything to extend content.
They are after all also gating quest text, lol.
I mean, most AotC guilds will do it or be very close to it.
We were pretty mediocre and cleared most of SoD normal the first week (minus like KT and Sylv)
