The Race to World First in Nerub-ar Palace Has Begun!

RWF at its peak gets north of 300k viewers on Twitch alone, across multiple different streams (Max, the Echo stream, the Method stream, all the Liquid/Echo/Method raiders, etc.). Asmongold averages around 30k viewers on any given stream, which is still an absurd amount. But as far as WoW stuff goes, RWF is by far the highest viewership the game receives, and it’s one of the biggest events on Twitch in general.

That said, Asmongold’s streams, particularly after the Depp v. Heard trials, have become a petri dish that has cultivated the absolute worst people in the gaming world. Grifters, incels, the alt-right, everything. Anyone would kill for his numbers (the dude’s literally a top 10 streamer on the platform even on his leech alt account that’s costing Twitch about 2 million dollars a year with zero revenue generated to make up for it), but absolutely nobody wants the kind of fans he has.

Hasn’t he basically only been streaming on his alt account for awhile

For a few years now, yeah.

He doesn’t have a sub button and doesn’t run ads on said channel so the Zackrawrr channel is quite literally a leech channel. By his own admission Twitch was trying to force him to get a sub button for a long time because, as you could probably guess, streaming in 1080p/60fps for several hours to a third of a day to north of 30k people multiple times a week, if not every day during the week, hemorrhages money like nobody’s business. And I believe Asmongold himself said that the Zackrawrr channel costs Twitch several hundreds of thousands of dollars per month, and a couple million dollars a year.

Even though Twitch is owned by Amazon, it has at no point since it got acquired by Amazon been profitable. That’s a big reason why the suits at Amazon have been cracking heads lately, with subscription prices going up, extremely invasive ads that even ad blockers struggle to get ahead of being forced onto streams, tons of layoffs, suspending service in Korea, etc. And a big reason why Twitch is so unprofitable is because of streams like Asmongold’s alt account that essentially light millions of dollars on fire.

Pretty sure twitch can still run adds on non partnered streams though

Knowing and seen Method players like fragnance used exploit’s on his stream to run 20 x heroic few times a day this week (check his stream for proof) allowing cheaters to gear up like this …

Fixed it for you.

Did he do the same exploit I described above, or is this just him doing splits and playing a bunch of alts?

These guys have a metric ton of alts and at this point they’re very close to finishing their splits on the first 7 bosses, if not already done. Which means they have nothing but Ansurek lockouts.

Ah yes… The race that doesn’t start at the same time for everyone… /eyeroll

Wow. I just knew he was a big streamer and watched a video about his house.

You have people doing a raid exploit and already have 4pc set bonus, how is this even remotely a fair race to 1st?

You literally banned some, but not others.

None of the big players have done that exploit, I expect them to come down pretty hard on those who did do it

RWF is incredibly lame.

There are two guilds with a bunch of financial backing, who poach any top players, and have social media followings big enough that they can throw money at their fans to help funnel gear to their mains.

It’s a PR event at this point. There are no underdogs in this race, no shift in the status quo unless a guild implodes, etc.

Put this on a tournament server with fixed raid comps and gear and see what happens. Maybe it’ll actually be worth checking out at that point.

Tournament server would be boring imo, huge part of the fun is seeing what drops they get during the race

that’s where the major rwf teams start to turn me off. there comes to be a point where it’s evident that there is some under the table RMT going on. I don’t believe for a second that all these gold loaners are doing it just for in-game gold. Especially when the top teams quite literally have a corporate cash incentive. Just too obviously out of reach for any player without a very large amount of connections and out of game cash.

I think a mage tower like hardmode solo boss is a super cool idea. :dracthyr_blob_dance_animated: Esp if gear isn’t a major factor.

Used to be a lot more shadiness before streaming was involved.

Obviously you can’t tell where the lenders get their gold from but they do pay back with mount sale runs and gear sale runs

I’m sure that’s part of the fun for some viewers. It’s just not for me. This is just another example of a community driven thing that’s been ruined by corporatization.

RWF used to be fun. It was fun when no name guilds would pop out of nowhere and get a first kill, or people felt like they could compete and guilds would pop up randomly to push for it. It was interesting when a really good player had beef and moved to a different guild, or when entire high end guilds would fracture and it would greatly impact the next race. There was a sense that something interesting could happen.

Now these top players are bought and paid for, which kudos to them, it’s just incredibly banal. Who is going to win Limit or Echo? That’s all it is.

I mean, it’s basically always been that way though, before echo and limit it was guilds like method, paragon, nihilum, death and taxes, there was very few times where some random guild would come out of nowhere and take it. Even after the bans in ds when stars took it, they weren’t a random guild, exorsis taking en wasnt a random guild

It’s always been about who can play more, and the money thing now just lets people do it with less real life hassle

That’s stating the obvious. There are exceptional players who make exceptional money for what they contribute to the gaming industry as professional players.

You’re serious?
