The projected life of classic WoW

How long do you guys think this will last after all the patches meet their final moments?

My best prediction is if they dont do any changes to the game or move to a new expansion, the game will eventually die in a slow agonizing death. Not because of disinterest, but because of everyone else not playing due to being demoralized from everyone else running around in naxx gear or because the realms will begin to feel dead since theres nothing else to do aside from battlegrounds, which will only be the people running around in naxx gear.

Private servers had the right idea. After a year the server ran its course, people wanted a F R E S H start where there weren’t level 60s or BWL geared players running around 1 shotting people. Each new server killed the old one, and the only people that remained were the naxx geared players ofc.

#nochanges can only run so long before you run the game into the ground. As much as i love vanilla and the mechanics, going forward should expand horizontal, and not vertical like retail.

Maybe they should just have vote polls for every aspect of the game, like runescape. Where you ask questions like “Should the game progress to TBC or something new?” “Should we add blood elves or not?” and go with the majority of the vote appealing to the majority of players playing vanilla.

I like the idea of voting for changes. It could be done in-game at some voting center in the city or even just through the chat.

cool story bro
how about you take a deep breath and enjoy this amazing opportunity to enjoy the game right now instead of worrying about 2-3 years time?

They will not make changes, because it will undermine next expansion after BFA

I think it’s still pretty early for speculation, but it’s always fun to cook up ideas, and discuss what may be.

While I don’t think a voting system to determine which direction to go would be any more successful than asking 5 year-olds what they would like to eat for dinner, and planning meals for a year based on their answers, a lot of people seem to think there are serious, and major issues with Retail that do not exist with Classic.

Whether adding new content to Classic WoW, adding fresh servers from time to time, doing resets, or learning from what works and implementing things that end up being long-term what people actually do want, rather than say they want, I think that so far, Classic has been an overwhelming success, and I’m greatly looking forward to the next phases.

If no content is added, and they bring in BC, and then Wrath servers at some point, I’ll likely play through those. Though, I appreciate that even those expansions will be controversial for some, I anticipate that those two will happen; of course, we shall see.

There are so many directions that could be taken with regards to alternate story paths, horizontally scaling content adding, fresh servers, etc. and that’s not even considering whether any lessons learned will be applied to future expansions of Retail.

I have heard arguments that they are worried about separating the player base by offering different paths, but I think if they are able to for reasonable costs, and keep filling monthly subscriptions, then anything is possible.

In any case, I’m really looking forward to continuing down the path we are already journeying down.

If they don’t do TBC, or Classic+, I see them rolling out fresh Vanilla realms after all content has been released.

As long as people keep playing them. I’m not intimated by other Players being in shining Purples. That has nothing to do with me, and what I’m doing.

And, IDC how “dead” servers might get. I play late at night, anyway and never during peak hours, so I’m used to not seeing that many players around…

Like private servers…ohwait

What i want them to do is, yearly reset of all realms. Every year, all characters get deleted and people have to do it again with #nochanges to keep it fresh

Yeah, no, if my Characters get deleted without my consent, I’m leaving. Just reroll on a different server. Don’t worry about what other people are doing.

Forever I hope I am not ever going to stop playing no reason to.
Also, Ion himself said that classic servers were going to go up and stay up. even if they became ghost towns.
With that said.
Classic will not go forward. Classic can not be changed. It has nothing to do with #NoChange people.
Once Classic is changed than Blizzard would have to change all expansions and yes even retail.
When TBC is released, TBC will be a stand alone game. TBC will have it’s own dedicated servers just like Classic. Ion also said TBC will be released depending on how well Classic does.
I believe Classic did better than anyone from Blizzard expected.
Now if Blizzard releases Wrath, than Wrath will have it’s own dedicated severs.
With the release of every expansion more people will resub to play their favorite expansion of WoW.
That is more money from subs to the store Blizzard will be making.
That would mean more money to put into retail.
Because Classic and all expansions can not be changed.
I need to stop typing or I could make this a very big wall of text.

Nothing lasts forever. Just enjoy it.

Adding levels and making everything easier with the excuse that there are now more levels is the lazy evolution that destroyed the game.
I’m hoping that #nochanges demand will be strong enough to make Blizz add things in Classic rather than changing it.
More demanding bosses, new weapons, new dungeons but with the same honor system, the same game mechanics and no easy mode.

I never got the excuse that it’s easier now because there are more levels, when they are the ones who added levels.

Offer a real evolution to the game as it IS, rather than changing the gaming it self with more levels.
Evolution in depth not in distance.

I skipped your long dramatic post. Classic is here to stay. Period with or without changes.

If it’s just one realm with a few thousand people playing, the game still isn’t dead and is still fulfilling its purpose of making some close approximation of Vanilla WoW available.

It doesn’t need changes to do what it’s supposed to do.

It will be here without changes

I can top that. Even with changes and/or a move to a new expansion, the game will eventually die a slow agonizing death. Most things die a slow, agonizing death, eventually.

And anybody who thinks a few seconds can’t be slow has never experienced real pain.

Classic will do just fine if it stays as it is. There will be solid core of people who enjoying replaying games they like playing, and a rotating periphery of people who come back every now and then for the nostalgia or because they feel the latest expansion is the worst thing to ever happen to WoW until the next expansion.

It’s supposed to. This isn’t supposed to replace Retail. You’re just supposed to play this and enjoy this moment of time in WoW’s history and move on when you feel you’ve gotten what you wanted.
