The Problem with Rag

I dont think world of warcraft is hard. It’s not like we’re launching rockets into space here - we are pressing 1s and 2s and getting fatter while we do it. So don’t worry this isn’t about difficulty. The biggest problem with the week 1 rag kill is Blizzard keeps allowing one of their core player-bases to get sh*t yet again.

The classic player base is big - its a big source of income for blizzard yet time and time again Blizzard, you keep doing things that make us into a joke. Rag killed on week one is just another example.

When rag was originally released was it possible to kill him on week 1 of a brand new server? With people pre-level 60, in greens, no fire resist, and the rep to summon? I dont think so - but someone correct me if im wrong.

In 5 days we just learned there is zero point to not going straight to Rag. You released classic for fans who are all about the journey and then completely invalidated the journey. Congrats Blizzard you played yourself.

My journey is not invalidated. Other people’s accomplishments don’t dictate my fun.

If you are getting all worked up about something some other group of people did, then you are playing yourself sir. Blizzard and the rest of us are just fine.

Sorry bro, you just cant erase 15 years of knowledge and skill. Classic was always gonna be easier, you played yourself.

The jokes on you.

Apes just did some valuable beta testing. Thank you Apes. It’s not like things that went live didn’t need to be retuned in Vanilla. Retune it Blizzard. Make it so hard people complain. Fixed before it it affects anyone but the insane.

My journey is still well under way at level 30.

Don’t care if people got rag first week

As long as I can AFK in MC and still get my Benediction, I don’t care who cleared Rag first. It’s not like it was Naxx.

And every other classic player in every other post on this forum

Naxx was super easy

Yep. The only people who care Rag got rekt are idiots who were trying to compete without any commitment.

See you in phase 6.

Commitment isnt needed when the game is designed this way - i’ll unsub til phase6 and have a group ready to clear naxx week 1. This is the retail version of classic. Just like in retail

Uh, the commitment to level 60, yes. Since this isn’t an instant 60 pserver, pretty sure it’s the definition of commitment no matter how many fanboys you have powerleveling you with layers.

That is literally untrue though. The “journey” is getting from level 1 to level 60. The endgame is the level 60 content.

The journey was not just 1-60 it was also the ever changing game. They were constantly changing things in classic so that will never be recreated because it just wouldnt make sense to.

Rag, formerly the 3rd longest standing boss at 74 days downed in 5.

No, for several reasons.

Remember, even though they’re releasing the content in phases, the mechanics and drop tables are running a modified version of the final vanilla patch two years after MC. The specific greens they were wearing were loaded with secondary stats that weren’t available when MC first dropped – secondaries powerful enough that they outright outperformed the drop tables in MC. Most notably, with the kind of spellpower available right now you get flash pallies that effectively never run out of mana because they can downrank so far it consumes almost none of it.

Fire resist was technically possible to be “good enough” using the UBRS mind control buff. But it only worked for an hour and until you died. It worked for Apes because they oneshot the whole place. A regular guild wasn’t getting progression attempts off it.

Rep…dunno. I don’t remember if the trash reset trick they did was possible on launch.

But most importantly, the reason Rag wasn’t killable on day one was because, mechanically, he was not possible to kill on day one. The fight was bugged – Rag would submerge for his intermission and just never come back up. You got spammed with adds forever until you oomed and died.

Enjoy attempting that.

Its already been done. Rag, formerly the 3rd tied longest standing boss at 74 days downed in 5.

They also didn’t know the fight then …they knew the fight this time…Correct me if I am wrong but didn’t at one point a guild 9 man MC in vanilla? it was never hard we just didn’t know what we were doing back then, we do now.

Learning fights takes a week at most

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but end-game raiding is not necessarily the destination. Downing raid bosses is about the 76th thing on my list of priorities in WoW Classic.

The point is what else will we also find is watered down. For me its the raids but what will it be for you? This is just a crack the foundation.
