The problem with Hunters

So I have been messing around very casually with my hunter and I realized what bugs me so much about it especially the MM spec. It’s very boring. And I don’t mean like there is not enough buttons to push because having more buttons does not necessarily = more fun.

The best way to describe my dissatisfaction is to think about the start of Wod or even Mists. At the start of an expansion classes tend to feel kind of Meh. I remember during the first raid of Wod thinking about how boring the class was without set bonuses and cool trinkets. Without those flavors the class is predictable and pretty vanilla.

Then comes the set bonuses and all of a sudden you get cool proc or interesting effects that change the way you play. For BFA it feels like the MM is stuck at that start of the expansion experience except now it last the entire expansion.

At least I was able to rack up another 2,500 HKs in a year and a half with the spec.

The spec is quite proc-reliant, so there’s that. It’s boring, but not when you take it to the mean streets.

I guess part of the issue is, without set bonuses there really is nothing interesting to work for. I believe (and I may be wrong) that Azeriate and essences were supposed to take the place of tier pieces. But the problem is, they have not added interesting elements to the spec. Part of the nice thing about tier gear was that it was exciting to work towards (even if it was not amazing). Completing a 2 set or a 4 set meant a very noticeable change in your character play experience. That is gone.
