First up, going to say I really like Elemental Storms. You bring the community together and its a continuing activity that brings people back as you need to get the 4 elemental cores weekly and do a number of kills to finish the quest for a total of 9 sigils.
Beginning the problem. Its random for any specific elemental type and is limited to a timer. That in itself is clever in regard to bringing the community together for a specific play time. Again, GG, Storm comes up and you are likely to have others to play with and make it a fun activity.
So its fun until you dont get the elemental core. As its random and being specifically to a timer if you are not online when the specific elemental type is on you miss out, if you are online and no one else is in the zone your fighting some really nasty elites for a random grind.
Randomly grinding in itself isnt the worst thing in the world, but being limited to a window of time and IF that elemental type comes up, it can lead to just missing out for the week.
My personal and reasoning for the feedback. By Saturday last week, no earth on my warrior, play morning and night time for around 3 hours a day and a little more on the weekend. No earth on during that time all the way till reset.
This week resolved to ignore the world quests and go straight to the Storms. Grinded Earth for 35 minutes straight this morning before coming to work as the only player in the zone, no core drop. How many World Quests could I have done in that 35 minutes?
I understand the mechanics and its range. But its frustrating when you do the work and get nothing for your time on a system that is limited for opportunity.
So, elemental storms drop the same cores as during the prepatch to get the heirloom trinket? I have to start trying for my earth again.
They drop a core that you hand in for 2 sigils that are used as currency to upgrade the gear the vendor sells. Blue to Purple.
They do randomly drop that elemental core for your trinket though as a seperate drop. Normally off a boss that might spawn in the zone during the time.
Do they only drop from the bosses? I got one core at some point, but I don’t recall from what. Those bosses need some work though…
Longer than a raid fight, and it feels like they should be spawning a little more often. They’re just gigantic health sponges. If I see one on the map, I don’t even go to them anymore.
It would be nice if there was simply a fill-the-bar WQ to get the token. Its better than the “kill enough stuff to pull the rare, and have it drop it” because you actually have to participate and do it, vs just lingering on the side lines waiting for the rare to spawn.
Or keep the RNG with some RNG protection. The RNG nature is certainly frustrating.
Yeah agree. And that might be the solution. I was thinking it should be some time factor in there to avoid what I had. I have had the opposite too where I killed two things and bang… core.
The randomness of the system is the main reason for my comments. Its probably the only thing I can think of in game where you might just miss out because you cant play when its on being 4 different elemental types.
I don’t mind the RNG, I don’t mind per se that the trinket which we were suggested was a pre-patch only thing is still available… etc… I do mind farming the elemental storms nearly ad-nauseum on multiple alts for weeks and never getting the recipe I “need” which only drops from the storms… and I somewhat mind the growing collection of, “Hey I can make another trinket…” items I have, can I trade them in? Even if it was like… 20 dust?
The only problem I have is that as you start to acquire that 385 upgraded primal gear, you start getting WQs and rares dropping higher ilevel than that, rendering some of the set obsolete before you’ve even finished it.
The biggest issue with the bosses are the “dragon rider” ones, with the mounts that have 6x more health than the rare and drop absolutely nothing.
Got all 4 yesterday, 10-15 min tops for each one, it’s up for a week, so you do have time to get them all.
I’m just not really into trying to grind elites.
If there’s an audience who enjoys it, so be it, but it’s not my thing personally.
I dont disagree, IF you are on. And I might get them. I might be lucky this week but its depending on range of elemental storm, locked behind a timer for it happening and the window it is up in game.
I cant change that I need to sleep, I need to work. People might look at that and go… meh, first world problem for you!
This depends on the area that the storm spawns, there are many spawn areas that you don’t even have to touch an elite.
The problem is that invasions/storms whatever they want to call them, are nothing more than boring trash mob grinds. Not really any objectives to them except killing trash. Previous versions like Legion invasions, and BFA faction assaults were a lot better imo. And not so much fun when in a big group that is flying around everywhere searching for trash packs to kill, and by the time you get to that spot the mobs are already dead, and without a tag you get nothing lol. They are supposedly going to be better in the patch I guess on the 24th, but not getting hopes up lol.
from the title alone for me:
They are extremely brain dead content with a low count tag limit. This new iteration coming with the patch brought nothing new but a time gate on the materials to gatekeep the mount. Hard pass for me dawg.
I dont mind it being on a timer considering the siege and feast and plenty of other world events are.
My bigger issue is that some locations are just broken. If the storm occurs in the seige area of waking shore, there’s just no mobs to kill. It’s a completely dead rotation.
Likewise, if the storm occurs in the Temporal Conflux, there’s only one good camp and it doesn’t really respawn fast enough.
Blizz needs to either increase the mob density or pick more mob-rich areas for this. They’re not bad when they spawn at Tyrhold, Cobalt Assembly or southern Azure Span.
Part of me wonders if these Storms are the reason cloth is so cheap. Not that I’m complaining, gimme all your Wildercloth.
Uninspired boring content these storms are. Really enjoyed the previous expansions versions of invasions. They really failed with invasions in Dragonflight in my opinion. Shadowlands was not that good either, in that it was confined to one zone.
Yeah I didnt want to complicate my gripe further but thats the other part. Sometimes its good and its the Wrathion area or Cobalt where your getting elemental storm and rep as a bonus. The other part is the Siege area and once the Siege happens you loose all the mobs for the rest of the time.
Sigils should be purchasable with conflux now. Was a smart move to gate them early on but now that M+/Raids are out just let those that enjoy the grind go farm them out.
