so I just finished vault of the incarnates and killed every boss except Broodkeeper Diurna only because LFR put me at Raz, and the raid before kept wiping on the boss before and broke up so I never seen this boss.
The problem I have with atonement healing is it’s just way too much to focus on. I need to focus on health pools and overall health of the raid, atonement duration on players, and getting dps on targets, all while avoiding mechanics. Am I better off focusing on just healing? It seems like evokers and druids are totally blowing me out of the water on healing meters and it just feels so underwhelming no matter my strategy.
The only realistic way to keep atonement up is power word radiance because renew is basically a wasted global that could be spent on something else and Shields have a few second cooldown. Flash heal also feels like a wasted cast because it heals for so little.
My strat has been to just focus on aoe healing with radiance then use my charged up penance to heal with the 4x charge from Smite and power of the dark side with a schism debuf on target if I can manage to do all of that while avoiding mechanics. Also, I use shadow covenant and halo when the whole raid needs healing.
There were a few times where this worked out great and I had a lot of effective healing, however, I find it to be very unreliable.
Sry to hear about it, but disc is not the healer to play LFR or manage these situations. Disc function better with raids composites between 16/20 players and on heroic or mythic, otherwise you try playing holy, super easy and can manage these specificities.

If you are playing Disc you are not playing a healer, you are playing a raid CD. Your job is to know a solid 15 seconds ahead of time that big raid damage is coming and set up your atonements so when it hits you can evangelize the whole raid, and then drop your HD+PoTDS Schism+Penance+any other damage you can squeeze in your burst and watch your raid go from 0 to 100% in the blink of an eye. After you do that you proceed to be mostly useless for 1 minute 24 seconds until you can do it again.
Enjoy.

yeah in the blink of an eye not from you, but other healers!

Yep. Pretty much this. Atonement heals for 40% of the damage I do and the damage in that burst window is pretty bad (maybe 150k dmg). Also, atonement only last 15 seconds and with radiance it’s only 9 seconds. That means everything needs to align perfectly to get any effective healing out and with mechanics all over the place and needing to constantly move around, it’s nearly impossible to time it right. There were a few times I did time it perfectly and was 2nd on healing for a boss fight, but the evoker healer was still like 50% ahead in healing. Then another time this Druid was just so far ahead of everyone else in healing I’m really not sure how effective the other healers were tbh.
They should double the duration of atonement and make radiance just apply atonement at 100% duration, then maybe disc priest would be a good healer with damage.
100% true.
In between your burst windows if you do anything other than try to maintain atonements on like 3-4 people (via renew, not PWS) and push “Smite”… you’re going to go OOM.
I wouldn’t say “near-impossible” but it is indeed significantly harder than the one-button Raid CD types.
Evoker is indeed a bit overtuned imo and Disc is in fact undertunned right now and getting some nice buffs next week… That said we can’t take numbers from one LFR run to really make any significant conclusions about where healers stand against each other… There are a lot more variables in play, one player might simply out-gear the others by 30 item levels or so…
Just yesterday I joined a Heroic Terros pug on my H Paladin… First attempt there were early mistakes so I didn’t make much of it but second attempt didn’t look like any major mistakes happened but the group wiped and I felt the healing much rougher that I remembered…
So I looked at the meters and noticed I was doing more than twice the healing of the two Evokers and the other H Paladin in the group, I mean they all were under 25k HPS and this is not a particularly low HPS fight there’s damage going out all the time… Should we use those numbers to balance the game around then?.. Probably not right… It was a combination of gear (I was about 10 item levels ahead) and probably also bad players underperforming on their specs.
And this was Heroic which you’d think would be better indication… I’ve also had a normal pug with a Holy Priest doing literally 1/3 of everyone else’s Healing (he surprisingly lasted for like 5 bosses without being kicked) I was also playing H Priest in that raid and keeping up just fine with everyone else (we were also about the same item level). I really don’t understand how was he doing so poorly but he was…
Oh or yesterday too, another heroic pug, this went a lot better in general but it was my Holy Paladin and a Mistweaver going head-to-head in HPS and both of us a good 25-30% ahead of the Evoker… Again hardly means anything since gear and player skill can make a big difference…
