The problem isn't lack of content

Truthfully, BFA has a LOT of new content, I mean there’s Island Expeditions I haven’t even set foot in yet, that’s not the problem.

We know that there are lots of cool bits of content in BFA; there’s Island Expeditions (those islands are quite pretty btw the artwork is fantastic), and as always you got the dungeons and raids, and we also have Warfronts.

So that’s not the issue.

We need to talk about the elephant in the room here…

1-Lack of story line in all the new content…

2-Lack of gear rewards, this one is a bit more complex.

The first point is easy…see, back in MOP, the original version of Island Expeditions were called scenarios; but every single one of those had some kind of story line behind it, it wasn’t a case of just go to this place and grind until the time runs out (aka the enemy beats you to resources). Also, the fact that scenarios had valor points made them worth doing.

The second point is a bit more complex, as this is the result of a number of things, while when I started Legion the idea of the artifact weapon over grinding valor points had potential, but as the patches went on, it soon just became an endless pointless grind, a grind that never ends; now to be fair to BFA it does actually help that you can only gain a certain amount of AP points each week, but…the difference is that unlike with the artifact weapon, there aren’t all these cool new abilities that open up as you grind further, I mean you do get different powers with Azerite gear, but most of them just aren’t really that interesting to me, not saying they are bad, but I just don’t feel a huge enough incentive to cap my AP points every single week. This is really sad, as I actually think Island Expeditions are good content, but when you have a situation where you aren’t even being told what the rewards are for going there, there’s just not much incentive to go.

Would you say that’s part of the problem?

Well, you’re not wrong.

Every time I recall Legion story, I feel like I was in it the whole time. There was no long pauses to forget what was going on in the story. In BfA I feel like I keep stopping at an episode, but instead of a week until the next episode, it’s a few months. Tack that on with mindlessly droning through simple content and real life, I need a dam recap at the continuation of each new chapter because I have forgotten.

Lack of gear rewards, it’s the RNG that is on top of the RNG. I’ll use my rogue as an example, he’s 370 geared, but his weapons were 340/345, weapons that I had had since Sept (one was honorbound weapon and one mythic freehold)

I enjoy pvp, but when I went in to WM and pvp I felt like I was not powerful, a wet noodle. In raids, I collected a metric ton of sanguine…sometimes some armor, most of the stuff I got was because whoever won it didn’t need it and traded it to me (thank you!), mythic chests dropped nothing but cloaks, boots and trinkets.
I was starting to not have fun because I had hit an artificial wall of progression, waiting for RNG to line up and drop me a weapon.

Almost wanted to quit, but then the Emmisary quest showed up with a weapons cache (nice and specific) and after months of nothing finally dropped a weapon!

Not only did it drop a weapon that was a huge upgrade, I no longer hit like a wet noodle. I went back into pvp and dominate people to my liking.

Life is good again, but I came real close. RNG on just gear was fine, but the problem I have is there’s RNG everywhere now and lockouts and content gating.

I was actually really happy with BfA content at first.
Then the ridiculous nerfs began.
When that started my interest went straight into the outhouse.

My thoughts were his.

So repeatable grinding islands is content?ok get all the flight paths in the game CONTENT,discover everything in every single zone CONTENT,did you lvl every single profession?Content and did you kill every single mob in the game?..CONTENT.

people dont have a clue what content really is.you must be listning to twitch streamers and getting streaming content and game content confused.

Content itself isn’t the problem I have with the game. Gear progression isn’t the problem I have with the game. I dislike Azerite but that’s not my problem with the game.

The issue I have is so many classes are watered down to nothing. Losing niche and utility abilities that some classes had had for literally a decade is not fun. Classes are hollow. There is no complexity. Toss in the GCD and most classes feel boring, clunky and downright slow.

If the gameplay of classes is good, even bad content becomes bearable. If gameplay of classes is bad, even great content takes a hit because its not enjoyable to do.

Oh I agree with this…I mean, mana tide totem made me a pretty unique healer, but that’s long gone now.

And heroism/lust means nothing, not when hunters and mages can cast it.

The emissary quest gave my BM hunter a staff. My Frost mage got on Off hand (upgrade). My Elemental Shaman a shield (slight upgrade). My S-Priest got a wand, which would be great if she had something for her main hand. My husbands assassination rogue got a fist weapon.

You know they added the ability to pick which spec you receive loot for , way back when they first let us have 2 specs open. That doesn’t do any good when the gear we get now is RNG on top of RNG. First RNG is will the gear reward even be usable for your spec, 2nd RNG is will the secondary stats be good or suck butt, mostly it’s the 2nd.

Honestly these 2 problems listed here are the main reason we are seriously considering quiting. After almost 11 years.

The class problem - just my perspective as a s-priest. When I first started playing a “hybrid” class was thought of far differently than it is now. Then it was about utilizing abilities from all your options. I have always played as shadow, but I could heal also, true not as well as an actual healer and my dps did take a hit because of the ability to heal, but I had the ability to do both, and it came in handy.

The first group of people I used to play with (on my original priest, on sargeras), I was shadow, but I healed for the group. We did dungeons all the way up thru the first couple in BC before it got to be more than I could deal with and we needed an “actual” healer. Even after we go a healer for the group, I could still help out when there was massive damage and I had other utility abilities to help out with.

Now I have no heal ability in shadow. Nothing. I don’t have renew, I don’t have any type of heal except this sucky Shadow Mend that does damage to you as it heals you. Bah. At least they finally gave us back control of Mind Sear after baking it into mind flay. Guess I’ll take that and be happy.

My favorite class by far has always been spriest … I have 4 of them. Now I look at them and I’m sad. Heck most of my characters make me kinda sad.

We are in the golden era of gaming before the big microtransaction era, and you guys are playing WoW?

Enjoy gaming for what it is now, broaden your horizons before the black marsh. Greed ruins everything, and gaming will be the first victim, I thought the movie industry would do it first.

The movie industry is already a victim, I mean all the popular and well-known franchises have been taken over by political correctness and everything, I mean in fairness the guy that made the female Ghostbusters movie said he was just out to make a good movie, but whether it was intentional or not every male character in that movie was presented as either A-a fool, or B-a jerk.

Star Wars fell next, followed by Star Trek with Star Trek Discovery, and now Dr Who has been the next victim.

gearing is super boring, you get a huge spike of power and then the last percents you gotta grind and grind, its hard to get BiS and actually get to enjoy the gear you worked for

Nope don’t care for the story one bit and you already made a thread on this gear issue so this is getting to be pretty much spam.

That thread didn’t mention story.

I know it didn’t - it doesn’t make a thread any less spam if you keep complaining about the same issue but disguise it by throwing in something else.

Well that’s for Blizzard to decide really, but to me it’s a pretty core issue and worth repeating a few times so they get the message.

The game has a lot of RNG that gives the illusion of content. The WQs are just the leveling quests repeated. Islands are boring, Warfronts are boring. I guess they count as content but they are extremely shallow content. Gone are the Class Hall quests, old legendary quests, etc. No new battlegrounds, no PVP or PVE vendors. It’s a mess.

Yes, yes, yes, this is the elephant in the room Blizzard!

This is 100% correct. They calculated it perfectly, too, to get people on the casino slot machine handle that equates to time-played. There is a point of diminishing returns, however, where your customer base gives up because there’s simply too much RNG and the content is shallow. That’s what happened around late Oct/early Nov. Tons of subs left, they brought out the 6 month mount, did the AMA, panic mode set in, etc.

I love Island Expeditions, but its true that it feels like a waste of time to do them since there is no treat at the end. The new mog items help a little but they are so rare that they don’t motivate me too much…

Island Expeditions are a fair bit more challenging than warfronts (you can actually lose them at least, wheras idk if losing is even a possibility in a warfront…), but warfronts are far more rewarding. You’re guaranteed at least one piece of loot from them, which can’t be said for Islands.

Either drop loot on islands, or guarantee a mog green for a successful run. They’re fun, but I wanna progress on something too…
