So Calia has lots of soundbytes about how she wants to be a good leader for the Forsaken, to learn about what afflicts us, yadda yadda.
I hope she has the sense to consult with The Primus and learn from him, because there seems to be so many inherent and cultural things that just come out of the Forsaken that were clearly sourced from Maldraxxus, unbeknownst to us.
I think it’s great they kind of give a reason why when we become Forsaken we suddenly decorate everything with bones and plague (Honestly I just liked the motif) but it turns out it was much, MUCH more than that. Something ingrained in us.
I hope these aspects are acknowledged.
Honestly, the most frustrating thing about Calia is she just enters stage left and assumes she’s the forsaken leader now.
She may be related to the old monarch by blood, but she has no connection to the forsaken. Not even the means of her undeath is in any way comparable to what the forsaken experience, and no-one is clamoring for her to replace Sylvanas.
Sure, but it’d be pretty awkward if the company has been under completely new management for the last decade and the kid has absolutely no relation to the leader who just quit their job.
If Calia was Sylvanas’s daughter, it’d be one thing. But Lordaeron hasn’t been ruled by the Menethils for a long time.
Calia’s entrance reminded me of the movie King Ralph where everyone in the line of succession dies off and then suddenly a swarthy John Goodman is the King of the UK
It has potential if done well.
Just throwing it in with little followup is one way to not do it well.
Id give her a chance if they actually fleshed her out in maybe a Forsaken heritage gear questline.
I realize my own aversions to having a new queen stems from me not really connecting to having a king in the first place.
If theyre going to flesh out Calia it needs to be soon cause after this Xpac the whole Death school of magic will reach its finale, like how exploring Fel was over and done with after Legion.
I think this has some promise and would be very good characterization for Calia. She is kind of a big deal in the lore, being Arthas’ sister. I know Sylvanas’ fan-boys would rather she disappear, but she’s arguably capable of having a bigger impact in story and lore than Sylvanas ever has been.
Especially now that she’s shown to be a new type of Undead. I know Alliance Paladins will scree that “The Light hates the Undead!” and yes that’s true in Classic D&D, but Blizzard has long made a practice of turning foundational ideas on their heads, and creating refreshing and new concepts.
Case and point, the Night Elves. Normally they are Dark Elves / Drow and usually Dark Elves are evil. That’s not the case in WoW however, thankfully. Because of that I dig the idea of the Light being able to make Undead. It shows that the game is not strictly black and white. Honestly I would play the hell out of a Lightforged Undead Death Knight that used the Human Model, but was Horde and loyal to Calia, Alonsus and Bolvar.
The Forsaken were her people in life, even them saw that way.
Calia saw Sylvanas has a danger and terrible influence to them (which was true, by a lot), Calia actually cares for them, unlike Sylvanas who only saw them as tools.
Also Lillian Voss doesnt wanna lead them, and she herself asked Calia to help them.
I would be perfectly fine with a dollar cheeseburger from McDonalds replacing Sylvannas if it meant I stopped having her shoved down my throat for a third successive year. Literally anything is better than more boring Sylvannas story.
Forsaken also tend to act like Beavis and Butt-Head when it comes to Sylvanas. Case and point…
Everyone: “She committed genocide!”
Forsaken Male 1: “Uhhh… Yeah but… She’s like… Hot. Huh, huh, huh…”
Forsaken Male 2: “Heh heh, Yeah! Heh, heh, heh.”
Forsaken Male 1: "We’re gonna score. Huh, huh, huh."
Everyone: “I am highly skeptical that you even have those anymore…”
Forsaken Male 2: “Yeah! Score! Heh, heh, heh.”
Everyone: “Can we just kill the Forsaken off…? Please?”
