The Pre-Patch Event is REALLY...Bad

Blizzard, c’mon… You do realize that you’re supposed to be hyping people up for the first expansion of a three expansion trilogy…? This pre-patch event is laughably bad and I don’t want to laugh at you.

This is supposed to be some epic story adventure… I will admit, the catch up cinematic was really good but this pre-patch event… You’re supposed to make it fun…

Waiting an hour for a mini boss (that dies in half a minute) and then literally having nothing else happen for an hour except lmao farm one mob for one single point and then having stuff cost 5000 of that currency is so lazy and bad.

Now, I don’t run a multi…billion dollar company… but I’m pretty sure if you’re concerned with player metrics and keeping people engaged with a grind or whatever… You will see greater success if your game is ACTUALLY FUN especially during content lulls. Fun creates engagement and the engagement is what drives sales and people back to your game at such a crucial point… the PRE-EXPANSION launch…

This pre-patch event is probably the worst/laziest thing I’ve seen in the last 20 years of playing your game.

In fact, the last couple of world events have been really lackluster, the most recent one I can remember is the hearthstone anniversary which was also incredibly bad… You have the resources to do so much better.

You need to take this as constructive criticism and do better next time holy hell lmao…

If you agree just reply or like the post… but I can’t be the only one who feels like this is just… terrible for the player’s experience, for people returning to the game (who are literally trying to make the decision of whether they should invest their time in the game again or not) and for the health of the game in general…

Yea I’ve just decided to play another game while I wait for TWW release lol. Maybe ill snag the mogs once the event doesnt have a movie length wait inbetween each one.

I leveled an alt from level 52 to 70 in less than a hour in a large group farming lingering areas. The gear is what ever, it’ll be replaced within the first questing area of the next expansion. I got really bored of Pandaria remix so this was a nice change of pace, and I can play my characters now instead of waiting until the event to end.

Out of all of the pre-patch events i’ve done, this one isn’t the greatest by any means but it does exactly what all of the other events have done, level/gear alts.

We didn’t really need another event to level alts lol especially with remix still going on

Since when has a pre-patch event ever been good?

Level maybe. Gear alts? In your dreams.

Legion.

I remember some really awful launches, but I don’t remember a prepatch with this many bugs. It’s just a prepatch! The actual launch is going to be awful.

It’s definitely not just you. I came to the forums specifically looking to see if other people felt the same way and saw your thread. I get that Warbands is a massive feature, but where the heck is the story? And why is the grind for the pre-patch currency (forgot its name) so horrible? Pre-patch gear has never been anywhere close to as “grindy” as this. I absolutely refuse to farm thousands of monsters for extra currency in between 1.5 hour boss spawns. This is quite literally the laziest work I’ve seen from Blizzard.

5 minutes of little stinky then 85 minutes of BIG stinky.

Then don’t. All that gear is going to be replaced within the first questing area of TWW.

even bother having an event if it is not going to be worth participating in.

As far as I’m concerned, pre-patch has always been just some romp-stomp of an event to level alts and maybe get a bit of gear if you can be bothered. Been this way for like, I dunno, 15 years?

The problem is, people have already leveled up all the alts they could ever need in MoP Remix, so I guess this makes this pre-patch event even less appealing.

I don’t understand why you’re trying so hard to counter argue this - it’s like you’re being paid to be the Blizzard White Knight. Let’s work backwards from today on what the good pre-expansion events were:

  1. BfA: The burning of Teldrassil and the battle outside Undercity
  2. Legion: The demon invasions and Broken Shore event
  3. WoD: The Dark Portal / Iron Horde invasion
  4. MoP: Theramore’s fall
  5. Cataclysm: The Shattering
  6. WotLK: the legendary Zombie invasion

They were good because they actually had exciting quests and scenarios/events, plus the grind was very minimal.

I’m not counter arguing anything. The event is bad. All the pre-patch events have been bad.

Edit: Tried to correct my post to include quoting your comment but couldn’t so I deleted it

I partially misunderstood, my mistake. But as far as expectations, the ones I mentioned were actually enjoyable. This one is by far and large the weakest of them all yet.

holy heck, they said ahead of time that the event will start out slow and ramp up. it is the first day! It doesn’t go from 1-100 in 1 day! yeesh

Doesn’t even feel like a pre-patch hype event. Just feels like another boring random repeatable quest on the world map that makes you wait hours at a time “just because”.

Absolutely boring.

This shouldn’t be a normal take imo.

Ok, having done all of them since the server went live, I have to say the memory gains are extremely undertuned, and the lingering memories in the zone serve no effective purpose because the residual memory gain is so weak, and the amount of it you get from the weeklies is so weak that you might be able to afford one piece of gear after doing all 3, and the fact that you can’t consistently engage with the events while they’re in progress because of the parallel nature of the middle part of the event (boss > 6 dots > boss) means going to one of them means not going to the other 5 so you’re lucky if you get credit for 2.

Rewards would need to be astronomical to feel satisfying with the way the event is current structured and since there is no way for a player or group of players to agitate the lingering memories to coalesce another congealed memory to restart the event you’re severely limited in the number of characters you can push through it (I’ve done 3 so far).

This event feels more like a chore than the other prepatch events, and if I’d put in this amount of time into the legion prepatch event I’d have never ran out of Nethershards.
