one thing I keep seeing wrt classic is that "players are more knowledgeable now" so classic will be easy
stepping into LFR makes me question that greatly. i could argue that modern wow is so easy now that you have even less people bothering to read guides etc
but even if it were true, the knowledge players have these days only apply to modern wow. vanilla was so different you had to approach the game with an entirely different mentality
anyone who didnt play back then will have to UNLEARN a lot of the things they think today and playing classic will take major adjustments in how they play
maybe a boss only had 2 or 3 abilities, but if you didnt deal with it your 40 man raid would quickly fall like a house of cards. trash was also on a brutal respawn timer
people also seem to have the idea that everyone in vanilla were noobs. they dont seem to acknowledge the fact that people had already been playing MMOs for 5+ years before wow came out. there were plenty of raid addons, some similar to DBM. there was plenty of theory crafting. vanilla lasted about 2 years and people had it pretty much figured out. people used websites like elitist jerks and thottbot
some people legit think naxx will be farmed by pugs like 2 months after release because of "player knowledge"
good luck with that
Thing about lfr though is there is always a percentage of afkers and trolls.
People will actually put effort into getting things done in classic.
That's the difference.
Edit:People will intentionally try to hinder lfr groups. That is not saying every player is now great but the focus/awareness of doing something in classic compared to lfr is much greater.
Go ahead join a group and start pulling mobs, trash talking, and purposely hindering the group. See how far it gets ya.

Well it won't take them long to get a dose of reality.
All the starting zones have that one cave of hostile mobs.
When Northdale opened I parked myself near the spider cave in the NE starting zone and just watched.
Players just ran into that cave by themselves. A few seconds later you saw them running back out with 1/3 health training at least 5 spiders.
There were lots of skeletons at that cave entrance.
So the rude awakening happens early and happens swiftly.

I meant to create a new toon on ND today.
I heard that since the demo came out there's been a flood of new players and the starting zones are jam packed.

Yea. I've been messing with a hunter druid and a mage.
Trying to get a plan for classic. Keep changing my mind. LOL

Ha..I have hunter, rogue, warlock, mage, priest, pally, druid and doing the same thing.
Started a shaman on horde side as well.
Swore that I'd pick a different main (was hunter) but my love of the hunter class won.
And with some planning I had my level 40 mount money at level 39.
i've switched around professions on them a few times to see what works out.
Also leveling strategy and how not to spend all my money at the class trainers buying up every skill available.

I feel ya. Hunter is so much fun leveling but so is druid and mage.
Warrior is an experience all it's own. Lol
Shaman is fun and I love the totem quests. Hahaha
Rogue is also resting at level 8.
Trying to pick a main but man choices....
Had this hashed out last November. Lol
People from the current game? Some will be in worse shape, but some will be on equal footing for the most part. Not everyone played on a private server, man.
To those who did not play private servers...How much do you really remember...really? There has been a really big gap. It’s a little more than the original Azeroth coming back.

It comes back to you. 1-10 will be like riding a bike after years of not riding..a bit rough in the beginning and you may fall off a few times but then stuff clicks and you get back into the swing of it.
Players don't know !@#$, they're just good at looking stuff up

Telldrasil is great for this kind of stuff. First in the spider cave, then in the satyr cave, and finally in Ban'ethil Barrow Den. The den in particular is hilarious. So much death!

That relics quest is a killer..literally !
Best one yet though..after all these years players remember:
Auberdine: "LFM Vast Ocean, Deep Sea"
"Don't do it man, don't do it, just skip the quest"
"Skip it, those murlocs have a 200 mile aggro range"
"You'll drown, you'll die to murlocs over and over and then abandon the quest"
Chat was full of things like that and so many "lols".
I did not even attempt that quest.
Knowledgeable doesn't mean there skill in wow is greater you still need a set of skill to accomplish things. Knowledgeable just means people know things they didn't information they didn't have off hand back then. I still have a good memory retain of all the quest I did back in vanilla and those I don't it would come back to me once I start it like an oh.. So I wont be running around westfall aimelessly etc. However just because I know the direct path to a quest area or I know everything boss A will do and in what time increments wont do much if I still cant play my class means nothing if I know the baddie is coming but I do nothing to either move out the way or dodge or whatever mechanic needed to counter.
Some thing as I state are much simpler then we did it in 2004 again info on every quest etc will make it that people arent just around north west of an area hoping to bump into said mobs they will know it found at 55, 35. knowing this streamline things much quicker than before. I know going into raid A that boss ! will do this mechanic every 25 seconds for this much dmg and how to avoid it or as a healer how to prep for it as all these videos and class guides will be out and more in depth then they were before. In this aspect yes people are more knowledgeable and for some this will equal a better and faster game play of other the struggle will still be real.

I think people who overglorify classic are in for a surprise. Unless things are time gated to artificially make it seem like things arent getting done faster than they were back then the surprise will be things moving much faster than you remember them back then.
Hopefully your value of classic wont be diminished by people being at max level much much faster than they were in 2004. Also, if the raids are being stomped because they arent actually all that difficult, hopefully it doesn't diminish your value of classic either.

I thought this very thing the first time I logged onto the demo.
Then I picked up the quest to find Mankriks wife.....and ran directly to her dead body without even thinking about it, it WAS like riding a bike, it came right back to me when I got into the area. Then the same thing happened with the "Stolen Silver" quest, Echeyakee, and the "Supplies for the Crossroads" quests.
I quit playing WOW 3/4 of the way through MoP, so I haven't even touched the game at all since then until the demo went online, and the knowledge came back quite readily much to my own surprise. So I am looking forward to a pretty smooth leveling experience for the most part. That's not saying I will remember EVERYTHING, and I'm sure I'll still get lost looking for quest items along the way, but for most of it I am pretty confident that I will be fairly efficient due to memory.
