The Player Housing Realistic Must Haves List

You really love spreading fallacies and fear don’t ya?

See that’s why I liked rift so much you could take in game art and manipulate for whatever purpose tree house simple have you seen how many are in this game…

I was with you for the first half of the comment and I swear I’ve read the second half of your comment like 14 times and without any punctuation or context, I don’t know if you’re trying to tell me something or if you literally started typing something else from another conversation :blue_heart:

Bet they’ll either add housing items to the Trading Post or make a separate montly rotating item collection you can buy for some type of currency just for it.

i’m kind of hoping they do like SWTOR and use every possible angle. we can’t just get things from one source so we need things to come from the trading post, dungeons, raids, mythic content, the cash shop, world drops, etc.

I’d say that is a fair bet…but you know they’ll have cash shop options too… I mean, if I were them I would – it is too good an opportunity to pass up for revenue.

I mentioned the cash shop in the post that you just responded to lol. I’ve also mentioned in the past that anything that comes from the cash shop should be allowed to be sold in the auction house for gold. That way anyone that doesn’t want to pay cash for the decoration can pay gold for the decoration and the person who paid cash for it can make some gold the same way they would with a token.

Both! But if I had to choose, I’d choose city. That way cities stay populated.

YES! A million times yes. Wtf is the point of player housing without oodles and oodles of decorating capabilities! It’s my home, I want it to look exactly how I want.

I’d like a little of answers B and C. Definitely not A; customization restrictions are bad, period. But I think it’d be neat if the basic structure of the house/the design of the overall neighborhood and whatnot is based on the zone its in, and then you can choose to edit your architecture to something else if you want. I suppose it also might make sense to give you a “freebie” architecture customization option based on your race, but you can earn it on other races too. Kind of like racial mounts. If you’re a night elf you get night elf house structure for free, but you can still earn night elf architecture on a human if you want—just might take some more effort.

I’d also like to see non-playable race architecture available, but that might be asking a bit much. It’d be neat to see, for instance, Nerubian architecture or something. But yeah I’d definitely prefer if they prioritize the existing playable racial aesthetics first, and make sure they’re obtainable by all and are not race-restricted.

To add onto this list an important topic of discussion that I’ve seen people debating:

Solo phase, or limited real estate in public neighborhoods?

Personally, I’d like to see both. Solo phase option should exist for those who don’t want to worry about investing time/effort/money into getting a plot, or having to maintain activity to hold onto their plot, etc. But limited public neighborhood plots should still exist for those of us who really care a lot about the community aspect of the game. A lot of people want one or the other very strongly, so why not give both and make everyone happy?

I think it is fair to pull from multiple categories, and my hope is since they have been working on housing for the last 3 years, they sat down and started with “let’s hear every idea, nothing is off the table”. Hopefully they already hit 85% of what we expect and then listen to feedback for the other 15% and we slowly get “revisions” in each new expac.

I would like a mix of cityscape and rural options for houses. As for how we enter them, it doesn’t matter much to me, can have it be an instance portal/npc somewhere that is your ‘estate access’ as it were. Along with the likely hearthstone toy we’ll get for it. But once inside that ‘home instance’, I would love to see various settings to pick from. Be it racial cities, or thematic zones for it to be ‘placed in’/themed from, as well as a variety of sizes, shapes, and building styles. While I would love it to be a ‘build your own home’ I’m doubtful that’s the route we’ll get. But would be happy to have various sized options.

As for the decorations, yes. 100% yes. Give me placement of objects in the home however I wish, and not simply a ‘snap to this wall trophy spot’. Would also be down for being able to place minipets/mounts/npcs there, similar to how the garrison had your mount/pet collection hanging around (but with more control over which ones show up, rather than selecting from all of your favorites), would be nice to return home after adventuring to have your dog/cat/etc napping awaiting your return. Gives that cozy feel.

I’ve played a fair few other games that have housing, and while each certainly had their cons, each had a pro with it. My personal favorite was Black Desert’s, as there was various world drop/boss drop/crafted/vendor/event decorations for the home. Defeated a boss? Could get a trophy from it, be it a weapon, horn, head, etc. Hunt down some wolves or a bear, some times you’d get a fur rug or head mount, etc. The cash shop prices were the cons to avoid. I’m not against there being options in the cash shop, so long as they’re reasonably priced, though I would much prefer if they’re all obtainable in game, or at the very least, something that can also be picked up from the trading post.

I would like each character to have an option to pick between their own home, or a ‘warband’/account shared home. Would be even better if you had an option to visit the other homes on your account.

And while it being a pipe dream, it could be neat to have a guild/community linked instance, akin to a neighborhood or guild hall. Not holding my breath on that one, but could be a feature to look into for the future given this is planned on being an evergreen system.

I feel that it goes without saying that it should be something that can be invited to, similar to the garrison. No point in having a place to decorate and show off if you can’t show it off. Perhaps a ‘view friend/guildies’ home option to look around their own instance of your place without an invite? Not sure.

I don’t know if it’s realistic, but I want to emphasize that social aspects should be considered to make sure that MMOs remain focused on the plurality of multiplayer.

A vague bullet point that will be important for me is:

  • Walkable City

And by that, it’s just that you can easily, if not seamlessly, walk out of your house into an actually populated city of players. It’d be fantastic if you could host players in your house for get togethers as easily as walking into Goldshire.
I just feel like the biggest problem that Garrisons did is the raw isolation

I would go one step further the way Bioware did Strongholds. Bring back a hidden key ring, and you can give a “key” to anyone you like. Then as they hit the entrance to their home “instance” just like the Delve drop down, you can pick from your home, or any other home you have a key for.

I am hoping one of the housing options is an apartment in major cities, so as soon as you exit, it is like stepping out into the streets. No different than say having a place in Lower Manhattan and when you leave, there are people everywhere. That said, I hope there are also “countryside” versions where you do not have the bustling of city life. I would love something like the Gilnean house/farm we saw in the starting zone for Worgen.

Starts around 7:27

An option for neighbors/neighborhoods is good, but not everyone wants to live in a city or have a house in one.

Agreed. I am hoping both options are available. Some days I may want to RP at my place in Stormwind, and other days I may want to be out in my Cottage in Val’Shara or Grizzly Hills. Confinement to one space with or without neighbors is not ideal. I don’t mind starting off in a neighborhood as long as I can eventually get a cottage or Gilnean Victorian elsewhere.

Conceivably there could be a portal in the capitals that when you enter a housing list menu opens and you pick where you wanna go like your home, your alts home, your friends’ homes, or public homes. Kinda like the way the Delve entrance menu works right now.

I would prefere:

  1. No solo instanced sh… Make it extra living zones where you can see yours+ other houses like in Daoc and FF 14.
  2. No massive stuff into cash shop. Some (not much) into Trading Post ok but the majority of stuff should come from professions and the world in WOW.
  3. Free placable stuff not only assets.

Dear developers look GOOD AND A LOT at Daoc and FF 14 housing and LEARN from them!
Make the housing zones big enough so everyone can get a house and not only the very rich people!

I suggested something very similar like a Delve dropdown menu where you can visit any location you have a key to in the cities. Country homes would require either manual travel, or the use of a HomeStone, much like a hearthstone, but with the selectable option the same way we get with Wormhole Generators, selecting the destination anywhere we have a key… city or country.

Country cottages should be solo instanced. But if they want to use the single instance entrance originally planned for a “neighborhood” they can do that too. We just want the choice to either be surrounded… OR be left alone.

An expansion on the way Hearthstones work could be awesome. Teleport to inn or wherever you set your home instance to.

There’s alot of neat ways Blizz could let people have homes in cities or the world. I really hope it’s not an either/or. Please, Blizzard, don’t force people to live where they don’t want to. That never works out.

In Ion’s recent interview, he stated that this feature would be evergreen, and ever evolving. Even if we do not get it all right out of the gate, we can still give feedback and request features we want that did not come in the first wave. Let’s see what we get first, and then keep threads like this alive for them to peruse and get more ideas from.
