The player community sucks

It’s really sad that I can’t ask for help in WoW, whether it be a simple question or for something in game, without being belittled, trolled, called a liar (for something a GM told me in a ticket), a scammer for selling something at it’s average price in Trade chat and because players couldn’t afford it they accused me of “scamming”, claiming I’m only selling it that much so I can “sell gold”. How bad does it have to get before Blizzard realizes something needs to be done? How many players have to quit the game before enough is enough? Do they really not care enough or do they make that much money that it doesn’t compute to them as something that matters?

First off, I don’t have BFA, so I asked for help running Firelands 25 man Heroic because my Mage isn’t strong enough to kill the final 3 bosses without dying to some mechanic. All I’m trying to do is complete the quest-line for Dragonwrath. But what did I get? I got someone who wanted to run in and kill 4 bosses before I could even get to the instance, causing me to be locked out on those bosses and setting me behind weeks on the quest. I even offered to pay him 1000g, so what did he benefit from it other than “satisfaction of trolling”? I just want to enjoy and play the game that I LITERALLY grew up playing and decided to become a Game Designer because of it. World of Warcraft is the reason I have the goals and dreams that I do and I’m so very disappointed about it.

Nobody can sell in Trade chat anymore without being trolled either. Every time I see someone post something in Trade trying to sell it, I see four more people commenting about how “That’s over priced idiot” when it’s the average price according to many addons and obviously the same price as every other of the same item on the Auction House.

I’ve seen players ask questions in chat simply trying to better understand something, or trying to find where something’s at and I see, again, multiple other players dogging them and insulting them for being new to the game. Then when the senseless, childish behavior finally comes to a halt against these players with questions, Trade just turns into a constant bickering and judgmental mess of conversations that are vulgar and have anything to do with explicit, human genitalia, diseases and everything you can think of do with anything xxx rated discussions.

I’ve been playing this game since I was eight years old and this game is the reason I am going to college for Game Design. Yet every day since I’ve returned to game just a few days ago, I’ve seen nothing but torment and insults among players. It makes me wonder why I ever chose to play the game in the first place. I mean, you’re telling me I can’t enjoy a multiplayer game with other people? I have to enjoy it solo and not talk to anyone? Ok, so that cuts out dungeons, raiding, PvP, and anything to do with other players. If that’s the case, what’s the point of playing?

I don’t mean to just rant and complain but I know I am not the only one who’s witnessed these issues and I guarantee the most of people who have quit the game is because of one of two reasons, if not both. One; the content isn’t what they expected and the game is slowly going down hill in that regard. Two; the player base is just… cancer to be honest.

I can’t express how disappointed I am as a long term player of World of Warcraft. Let me know your thoughts…

There will always be nasty people, and there will be good people.

I just you have gotten unlucky and that is a shame

Trade chat has become a toxic cesspool . The only thing that doesn’t happen there is trade. I for one avoid it . To be honest they may as well rename it Troll Chat seeing how that is all that happens there.

YOu might want to avoid Trade and try General . Not saying it is any better , but you never know until you check.

fixed that for you

that aside, op - asking random strangers to carry you through content that most are able to solo simply isn’t likely to get a positive response. What level is your mage and what are you struggling with? Someone here might have some ideas to help.

I’ve attempted closing trade and general. Whereas it limits that behavior to almost nothing, it leaves me having to deal with players sending whispers and talking in /say, with insults. I’ve tried to cancel it out completely and it just happens to find it’s way no matter what. I just can’t seem to get away from it.

Vacuum cleaners suck.

That’s a fact!

This is what I mean. Senseless behavior that has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. You simply aim to prove my point further.

True to an extent it has gotten worse since Cata when less people were going out into the world. I often refer to Trade as Barrens Chat 2.0

Seems like you need not be on moon-guard.

They have a strip club in goldshire for god-sakes!

I treat things like this lightly because… is it really help when you help someone in a video game? It cheapens the word “help.” Same goes for anything in such a shallow environment. I come here and play the game and have fun and sometimes I don’t. I don’t come here and post things because they are worth my time (I guess I’m wasting my time) … nothing really game-related worth anything really.

It’s my own fault, I could solo it if I just finished leveling my Mage. She’s 109 right now, I just didn’t want to level anymore today, I wanted to do something enjoyable to me, which is running old content. I figured while doing so, I might be able to ask someone for help with Firelands because the mechanics for the last 3 bosses end up taking me out pretty quick before I can do enough dps. My gear is behind too. I never had this problem last time I played, and I was an even lower level then. So I don’t know what the issue is other than I just don’t have good enough gear now. I simply wanted to take a break from leveling and I guess that bit me in the rear.

Been toxic like this for quite some time. One of the best communities I ever experienced was back playing EverQuest.

Maybe Classic will be better, though I doubt all the sudden everyone’s going to stop being toxic and actually help one another. Some may, most won’t…

For an MMO, the player community is a huge part of the game.

I think one of the key differences between vanilla and now - in terms of not being a dick - was that there was no CRZ, and no renames unless you jumped server.
Players’ reputation among other players was really important, because if you became a pariah, you would get no help with end-game.
It’s the lack of community that exacerbates the problem of basic anonymity. You can be a complete prick and there are no ramifications in the modern game.

This is an understandably jaded view of the WoW community. There are plenty of toxic people, of course, but there are plenty of nice people out there as well

I’d be more than happy to help you run old content if you ever catch me on (I’m OCE and can’t get on as much as I used to)

I’m sorry that you haven’t had great experiences, perhaps you can find a good guild? That helps a lot

The community has always been awful. Even back in vanilla. Even back in bnet.

Exactly my point. And it’s the players that are the face of the game. I mean it’s pretty obvious that without players, the game wouldn’t still be running. I have 2 friends myself that quit the game, and when I asked why, they responded with “I was getting tired of the other players”

you clearly have not played games like league.

Sadly enough I’ve tried joining many, many guilds in the few days that I’ve been back to WoW and in each one I am ignored when I ask a question, blatantly even. They would just continue with what they were talking about as if I never said anything. Every guild I’ve joined it has felt like people had me on ignore, not saying they did, but I very rarely ever get a reply for any questions about new content that I ask and am forced to google it myself. There’s no multiplayer about WoW anymore, it’s survival of the fittest.

You need thick skin if you’re going to try and sell things. Don’t ever go to a country or market that allows haggling if you can’t handle it.
