The Plague Event is Fine, but only if it's Opt-In

right - you speak for everyone

Speaks for me on that point.

By the way. I went ahead and spent some time on the PTR and tried the event.

It’s complete crap.

The zombie PCs pretty much one-shot you, even at 50. You have incurable plague from even the AI zombies’ scratch unless you can make it to an Argent healer in 60 seconds. The newbie questline directly ports you straight to Org or Stormwind. You literally can’t fight back.

And this is supposed to be fun? To be totally helpless?

You’re bias against the event to begin with so not sure what you’re trying to accomplish with this post.

Because I was apparently giving it too much charity. It’s a total disaster. There’s no way to fight back. There’s no way to stay alive. There’s no way to help anyone.

This is so one sided for ganksquads that it’s honestly insulting.

So there is a span of two weeks where a portion of the player-base is offered no option except to log out?

What marketing genius came up with that?

Although maybe the game is making a decision about the kind of player it wants. Perhaps it will be a good thing to know if the game is not for you.

I have passed on many games upon finding out that I will end up being the content for pvp bullies and mommy-issue griefers.

Some people like that, but it’s not for me.

So, WoW is giving you two weeks to look around, find something else, discover some other games. ESO is good, City of Gyros is still kicking around, FF IXCIII!!11 is doing pretty things, there is probably more if you like space games.

I guess its key to understand that Blizz doesn’t care a whit for your play experience. It has been what it has been purely out of inertia. There is no dedication to an overall design or an ethos of any kind.

Their disclaimer does say that your online experience could change at any time. But because of past consistency, it is tempting to imagine they care about providing a particular experience.

Enter your two week wake up call.

Its not that the game is ruined forever, or will never serve your interests again. Its just that the game might no longer be for YOU specifically. Maybe don’t put all your eggs there.

Maybe don’t think of it as your refuge. Don’t plan on escaping into its pixels, because it will apparently sell you out to PVP thugs on a whim.

If you trusted the development staff to deliver a steady standard of gaming, this will probably correct that notion.

This forum thread shows what happens when gleeful griefers are handed the reins. How pleased they seem at the prospect of ruining your time online, forcing you out or simply taking your game from you.

Its condensed down into the word “fun”, but it only exists if there are unwilling participants who can be imagined to suffer in its yoke.

So shop around I guess, you will have two weeks it seems.

Supposed to be a dangerous time in the world. Hence “WORLD” event.

It’s not dangerous. It’s certain death.

That’s all the event is. Dead PCs and dead NPCs. With no way to stop it.

This event is literally just for people that like to see things die.

How do you think we’re getting to Shadowlands. Gotta have some death to stir the pot.

No, we can use a portal for that.

This is just for Sylvanas Loyalists to get some final jollies in before that corpse gets ground into dirt.

Oh I don’t support Sylvanas in any way. I do support a unique and limited time event where there is a bit of chaos in the world. Just seeing you trying to squash some fun is all.

Getting endlessly killed isn’t fun.

What part of this is fun? Where’s the great breakthrough that comes with staring at a death timer?

Or am I just supposed to be a mindless killer now? Inflict the same nonsense on everyone else? Forcing someone to participate is the only way to feel joy from this?

That’s sick.

That’s the event. Not going to get killed as much if you’re a zombie. Have some actual fun for once.

The only fun I can have as a zombie is at someone else’s expense. And I’m not about that. Since that’s the only justification you can come up with for ignoring opt-in, we really don’t have anything else to discuss because it’s clear your thoughts on the agency of your fellow player.

You want to ruin the event. I want it to be fun.

If I shard out, it’s the same as logging out.

Tell me how the event gets ruined. Go on.

Oh, and do it without making players unwilling victims.

Not the same at all. If you opt out then the entire world is not affected. World events should affect the entire world not based on whether you choose to be affected.

Like Lingxiu.
Those requests?
You honestly expect them not to be mocked for these?

/silly
I too would like to “opt-out” of game crashes and lag. Where do I sign up?
/sillyend

These complaints are kinda silly.

In the context of “Opt-outs” world events aren’t included. I can’t opt out of DMF, Winter Veil, Harvest Fest, or Pirates Day no matter how inconvenient I find them. It happens, I can try to avoid the events, but they are still going to happen. If I have to visit a major city I will encounter the event and players participating in it.

I can’t just banish the event to another world and play on a version of the game where such events never occur.

Those events aren’t having you kill fellow players. Children’s Week and Hallow’s Eve still respect War Mode.

Yet this one doesn’t because ~reasons~.

Just to clarify something here, the last zombie event lasted one week. That’s what you’re getting yourself worked up over.
