You’re not going to be forced into roleplaying with people, most people on roleplay servers are peaceful and chill people. You will have people coming up to talk to you, or complimenting your mog. The players on roleplay servers care about the social aspect.
In Zerith Mortis the other day I found two random players and we sat by the fire and chatted for an hour. This is not a rare occurence, I see this multiple times a day. People just standing around in the world chatting, making friends, joining guilds for social aspect.
Orgrimmar was attacked today and one of our world pvp guilds who roleplay as guards took to defend it. We have events in the world.
Moonguard is great for Alliance (even with the Goldshire Inn Memes) and Wyrmrest Accord is great for Horde.
Switching to a RP server is the best decision I ever made.
I actually enjoy being a solo player. I don’t like groups and people who run dungeons today are just weirdos and really really mean. I don’t get online to get verbally harassed & made fun of bc I make a dumb decision. I don’t even tank or heal in regular dungeons anymore bc I got tired of it all. I’ve been playing for 17 years btw and I used to be apart of major raid groups.
It’s just not for me anymore. So it’s either solo or with my husband who also likes to sometimes play solo. I think follower dungeons were one of their best ideas and I hope they grandfather them into older dungeons too.
Social stuff used to be fun and enjoyable but ppl today are just really really mean and verbally abusive and that’s not why I get on to play.
Of course, but some people crave the social aspect but have a fear of roleplay servers because they think they’ll have to roleplay, which isn’t the case. Roleplay servers are great for everyone.
Friends and I made characters on Emerald Dream when it actually did do RP stuff, we were swarmed and told to “go away” (polite version of what they said) because we went afk on mounts in stormwind once
I flat out don’t invite moonguard or wyrmrest players to my groups since I can almost guarantee they’re gunna crash out or just be insanely toxic to anyone else
I rolled a toon on MG way back in the days to trade battlepets across servers. Years later I was going to give roleplaying a shot so I transferred an alt over but went down in flames. Over time I eventually migrated over (do not have many toon). I have yet to run into any unfriendly people, but I also make an effort to respect the role-players and avoid hubs and events. I play solo, but have made some friends over the years.
Note: if you decide to go to Lions Pride Inn, roll a fresh toon that you do not feel bad about deleting. It is close to forgetting things as you can get.
I got good news for you: it still is. The reality is, you just had some bad luck with a few bad apples. Report them, ignore, whatever you have to do. But most of all, move on. They’re not worth your time.
Not “a roleplay server”.
Moon Guard and WRA specifically (depending on faction, as you pointed out).
The rest of them are just dead servers.
But yeah, on general sentiment, I agree.
That said, WoW losing its social aspects isn’t exactly a player created problem. You can do what you can to get it back, but the fact is that the game itself used to create a social environment by design.
Mostly by forcing it due to a lack of grouping tools, tougher world (in comparison to player power), and isolated realms. But by design nonetheless.
We no longer play that game. WoW traded a better social experience for a better video game experience. Hard to blame Blizzard for that, this is a video game first and foremost.
But that’s what really sucks for those who want their MMOs to be social experiences more than modern ones tend to be. It won’t come back. Things are different now and instead of socialization just being a natural part of how the game functions, it’s not something you have to go out of your way to seek out.
Playing on Moon Guard or whatever can help, compared to a dead realm or overly full endgame centric server. But it’s still a different experience vs how the game was before.
I moved all my characters over to WrA / MG a few months ago. I’ll probably never transfer off. The trade chat is really something else - and I mean that in a good way. It’s also cool to see the random things that go on. I saw a paladin parade yesterday in Dornogal.
The same people who complain about the lack of socialness, never make any attempt to befriend people in game. Or try once, fail and then never do so again.
I only started playing again in the last 2 months and met so many new people I can’t even keep up with talking to them all.
