This thread is making me not want to play Classic at all, tbh. I’m just shocked at how many people basically have this mentality: “I just like rushing and conquering now.”
If I’m really enjoying myself, I can burn through content quite fast. If I’m not bored out of my mind rolling through everything, I can keep enjoying myself for longer.
You do realize that people might play faster because they’re having fun… right? They’re approaching Classic not as a, “museum piece” but to enjoy the game again?
Um…yes? And you do realize that museums are also to be enjoyed? How does the thought of thoughtfully browsing your favorite exhibit amidst the frantic running and photographing of a horde of tourists sound to you? Perhaps you would decide to step out. That’s what I’m feeling right now, so how about you extend to me the same empathy you expect me to extend to people who want to rush and crush?
Raiding is the most fun content in the game for me, why would I want to delay that?
Why would I want to be slowed down by players less dedicated and passionate about the game than I am? Why wouldn’t I zerg up with the hardcore bois and stomp some raids asap? Why don’t I want multiple resets worth of gear? Why put off progression content? Gold is fastest farmed at 60, why would I slow down and make lateral progress, when I can get the best results for my time in that progression path later?
Level 60 unlocks so much of the game, and competitive players are very attracted to the allure of the rewards. A weapon might last 6 levels, but at endgame a weapon might last weeks or even months. Everything has more permanence at endgame.
There’s going to be a Classic world first… That nobody cares about, because hardcore players SHOULD know that retail is where the competition takes place. Raids will see day 1 clears with Classic launching. We know too much about the game now for there to be any serious competition. The average player is better mechanically by miles, and the access to high end information is a click away.
The thing is there is actually plenty to do even solo at 60 if you rush it out. You can work on professions. You can work on world quests/gearing since some quest chains actually give pre raid BIS. you can work on reputations. You will pretty much be able to farm any non UBRS/scholo with a group of mid 50’s. (I remember those were the only 2 i had left to do pre 60). You cqn gather resources without the competition.
Most of these are actually easier to do compared to when there are a bunch of level 60s.
However for me especially with the news on how patch cycle seems delayed even more i will be power leveling many characters to 35.
It’s the same way many people played vanilla (if not so many on their first playthrough, then certainly from the first round of fresh servers onwards). It’s part of the vanilla experience, and as valid a way to enjoy Classic as any.
You can only feel what you feel, but I think it’s fair to point out the difference. You are dismayed that some other people won’t be playing the game in the manner that suits you. They, on the other hand, will not be the least discomfited by how you choose to play. So it’s not really a matter of mutual empathy, but of you having unreasonable expectations.
That said, it sounds like you would certainly be better off in a PVE server, and as you’d be spending your time in different parts of the world to people who level more quickly, you’re hardly going to notice them outside of the main cities anyway.
I won’t even recognize world firsts for vanilla content at this point. As far as I’m concerned that happened years ago under a lot worse conditions given how far the code base and server hardware has progressed over the years. That said if it floats their boat then whatever.
This is my feeling, as well. A lot of the time, whether or not you’re on a PvP or PvE realm, it doesn’t really change that much. Unless you want to gank people in 1-20 zones in their own territory.
World PvP still exists, even at low levels on PvE servers. If you so much sneeze or target a guard in Arathi Highlands from 500 yards away, you’ll get flagged for PvP. Same thing as being in a contested zone. Most zones past level 30 are contested zones, minus the ones with neutral faction guards that will come put an end to it (if it’s a small kerfuffle).
Basically, the PvE/PvP discrepancy is: Where do you want to gank/be ganked? If you want “fairer” fights, you’ll get them on PvE servers without fail. If ganking is your thing, roll on a PvP server. You’re getting world PvP either way.
