The people that play this game are so polarizing I get whiplash sometimes

In one guild, they use gamer words in guild chat 24/7, like I don’t think people during slavery were even this racist. Constant swearing, belittling people, insulting people etc. Feels like a bunch of 13 year olds trying to say things that will get them in trouble with their Mom.

Gquit because it’s just not a vibe.

Join second guild, everyone is insanely soft. Guildy gets upset because another gay guildy jokingly says they’re homophobic.

Get gkicked for making the following joke:
Guildy: “Why would anyone ever play Alliance.”
Me: “Ally are the sort of people that drink Tea IRL.”
→ Insta gkick.

Why is it so difficult to find people that are capable of socializing like normal human beings…

Ah but what is normal these days? I feel for ya I really do, people come in a wide variety of flavors you just gotta find what flavor appeals to you. Are you sweet? Spicy? Sour even?

you’re playing on the FOMO realm yeah?

Haha yeah man you have to guild hop until you find one that fits your personality.

I remember doing a PUG run with a guild that would scream into the mic non-stop talking back and forth about nothing. Like dude does anyone else’s ears hurt?

Don’t be afraid to move on if the vibe is not right.

This is on point. And also it’s not that scary to start your own thing if you aren’t finding what you’re looking for in the existing guilds.

I can’t speak for fresh realms (have avoided them so far), but Era has plenty of guilds with a balance between being respectful yet still able to joke/play with each other. I think the demographic there is on average less immature than most places.

Me: “Ally are the sort of people that drink Tea IRL.”

YOU GOT SOMETHING TO SAY!

goes back to sipping my Oolong Tea.

WOW’s, DOTA 2’s and any new flavor of the month’s games communities are toxic. Other less popular RPGMMO’s have way, way, waaaaaaaay better communities.

the Goldilocks Guild search continues.

I feel like this is most wow players. I hate it. I hate them/

Thats a real dumb reason to kick someone, as a tea drinker irl

I concur. Hell even on FFXIV that I believe has more players than wow now, finding people who use gamer words is unheard of. It’s so insanely rare. When someone treats you badly, other people will tell them to stop. It’s just like real people play other mmo’s and people who play wow haven’t interacted with a non-wow person in 40 years

As others have mentioned, you’re playing on the flavour of the month server which has attracted the dredges of wow society. Those who couldn’t make it on their old servers. These people lack very basic social skills. It’s quite remarkable because since anniversary came out, SoD has had a much happier vibe.

The playerbase is a reflection of the company who makes the game.

Yeah I agree to an extent

TERRIBLE joke, how DARE you. In other news, did you know it’s illegal for Chipotle to give you more than 239 beans in one burrito?

If they did it would be two Farty.

Good luck in your guild search nerd ! It’s hard as an adult who’s relatively well adjusted to find normal people, I feel ya.

What are gamer words?

Think of any vile racist, homophobic epithet used by certain types of gamers. Mostly just anything to put down anyone a bit different than the stereotype of the typical gamer.

oh I think thats easy to answer.

I used to like interacting with people. It was the one thing that drew me into MMOs like 28 years ago (Meridian 59). My best memories come from EQ and WoW when it first came out all the way into Catacylsm and then Blizzard changed the trajectory for whatever reason (money…I m sure) and things became…bad

The endless grinding, competing for resources and prestige combined with all the things solvable with a quick credit card swipe attracted more and more people who somehow dont seem to like playing with other people

By now…years down the line the average community has conditioned me to expect the worst without giving people the benefit of the doubt anymore. Too often have I been burned, used, exploited, abused, offended and one of the best scenarios nowadays is when you are treated with silence (not because of bots I m sure)

I keep playing because I play with my wife and we duo dungeons together. We ll never raid again, we both have a strong dislike for guild drama and pick-up raids just bring out the worst in people. I realize that by retreating into myself like that I actively prevent meeting cool people (if there are still any out there…) but it seems the word has moved past me already and the social norms I grew up with are unknown replaced with terms and behaviors I look down upon.

I wondered if it wasnt better for me and my better half to find a single player RPG with coop mechanics. But find one that fixes the WoW itch…

Reading this I feel pretty lucky.

The vast majority of interactions I have in game are fine. I’ve come across very few instances of people being just utterly terrible.

You sure you aren’t playing retail?

Probably 80% of the people I’ve met in classic have been chill older gamers trying to relive nostalgia without any of that drama.

The worst drama ive seen so far was a little elitism in raid comps lol

Same here, I can think of one person who legitimately crashed out (because we didn’t go out of our way to kill mob packs in a “full” run of Mara) and that was a pretty simple fix of just disbanding and reforming the group without them.
