The "Outrage" Over Placing Trading Tendies on the Cash Shop

Funny, like someone would do that. Classic is trash.

Did you report your name?

It changes the fundamentals of what Tenders are.

Prior to this it was a side event that you did for a fun little reward.
Now it’s a premium currency, or what is usually “gems” or “crystals” in gatcha games.

While it’s not exactly Pay to Win in the same way as the token, it’s one more step towards mobile game mechanics.

It’s also a bit disturbing that they gave everyone that first hit for free, then decided to monetize it after you got used to it. It’s the classic bait and switch a drug dealer would use.

For most players it’s going to be entirely skippable. And that’s fine.
But some have that “gotta catch em all” collector’s instinct and now that 15 dollar sub is $15 plus whatever you’re willing to cough up for the recolored Legion set.

I also think it’s kind of funny so many people yelled that tenders would never be on the shop, and now people are yelling that just because piles of traders tenders were datamined as shop assets on the shop that it’s no indication that the traders tenders will end up on the shop. It’s these copium fueled sillybillies that make cash grabs like this possible.

Because first comes the cosmetics then comes the items that help with small bits of gameplay then outright items needed to do progression.

These things appear because people pay money hand over fist for them. Cash shops appear because people love buying things.

If no one uses it and rejects the monetization style it will disappear like the diablo 3 real money auction house. If people whale out like suckers it will fester and grow and multiply.

The point behind the Trader’s Post was that we were told it was meant to be a way for people to be able to get in game things like transmog and pets and mounts through playing the actual game. Just placing it in the shop is a slippery slope to things becoming less based on the idea of people doing things in game and people just throwing money at Blizzard.

We pay a sub fee, and a box price every two years for new content. There shouldn’t be an in-game shop at all, and really, it’s fine that there is one. But when something is designed around providing people with new means of retention mechanics which are meant to be fun and cosmetically rewarding, it kinda stings when that same currency is being placed in the shop.

Keep in mind, all we have is datamined icons and what not. We don’t know what the actual point behind this is yet. People are losing their minds a bit prematurely, but if this does wind up in the shop, it would overall be a net loss.

That is true. But I work hard to try and earn enough gold to pay for my sub. That is the primary use of gold for me. And many people don’t have the time or ability to earn a lot of ingame gold to be transferred to their bnet account. Given how much they are atm, it takes a lot to earn that token.

So you end up with a situation where the people who can afford to shell out for the items with real money will do so, and those who can’t afford it (like me) will miss out. That will only serve to generate more frustration and annoyance imo.

Mostly happy that mythic raiding gear is coming to the cash shop in 10.2

Yeah I’ll probably be the most upset if the prices of stuff goes up if they add the tender to the shop. If prices stay the same as they are now then really its a non-issue except for people that cant wait. I might buy some if theres a particularly nice mount on the trading post that month, but other than that its just something I wont buy.

Okay. Make it whatever tender it will cost plus 5 mill then.

Ohh, you don’t have the Brutosaur and think it should get be a freebie when others actually had to grind the gold for it.

Got it.

I can understand the “prices going up” view; however, we have no evidence of that happening at this time.

we don’t have evidence of any of this happening at this time, so this entire thread is pointless. all people are doing is speculating

Because people have been taught that a company making money is bad.

Unfortunately I get that impression :frowning:

And the more money a company makes the more these people hate it.

That doesn’t feel quite right. People don’t want a company taking their money. They don’t care if it takes other people’s money.

I don’t understand this. When I provide a company money, it’s in exchange for a product and service. It’s also with the understanding that purchasing from that particular company supports their business as a whole. I don’t understand the “people don’t want a company taking their money” line because, to me, that sounds like “people don’t want to support the company that’s providing the services those people want.”

Because we shouldnt pay for cosmetics when we pay for a sub and expansion.

And I provide it for the game of WoW, not for mogs. If they misuse the money they take from me and squander it on something I’m not interested in, then that doesn’t go well.

Few of us like what the US federal goverment spends our taxes on and we (at least think we do) want more control.

I rarely hate companies, full stop. The few I do are ones that I will simply not do business with.

I disagree with this. What is the difference between charging for a few optional cosmetics and charging for racial or faction changes?

shouldnt charge for either
