Yeh they done goofed this one up, thankfully itās only 10.0.7 content and not something season long.
You can build differently if you want say a defensive build, but who does that?

Itās annulet actually. Pedantry aside, no I dont even know what all the stones does.
Nothing really useful. One stone gives additional healing when another of your stones heals, not when you heal. Some look good, but the combination of a āhealingā, DPS and that third stone makes them bounce of each other, thatās what makes them so strong, the blood stone is a healing stone, that does damage.
Well the stones are just generic damage procs and have almost no interaction with class mechanics or stats, so of course the best combination for ST DPS is the same across the board, as it is for AoE, and HPS.

Itās the twilight stone, they should never have made that one, because the blood stone is a healing stone that does damage it triggers the damage stone. And when the damage stone does damage it triggers your healing stone, doing more damage, so itās a double chance to do damage that does double damage.
And it gives some 10-15% of your overall damage, thatās a lot from one item.
Honestly it wouldnāt have much difference, the best combination for XYZ thing would still remain the same for everyone because nothing unique about your spec has any baring on the power of one gem over another.
Thereās almost always a BIS combo, thatās just the nature of the game. Itās also only decent in ST situations and pretty useless anywhere else, and will likely be replaced in a month or so. Nothing to get super worked up over.
IMO, it is a one piece of gear entire upgrade for most casuals. I have 5 toons at 70, all in the 385-406 ilevel range. I am an LFR and mid M+ player (2 toons at 2k rating). I am a āserious casualā.
with that one ring, I am boosting my dps 10-15% and not having to farm and entire gear set to do it.
the annulet is not for people in 420+ gear. it is for us pleebs. let us enjoy it.

I suspect Blizzard will nerf the stonesā synergy shortly after S2 begins.
I mean itās BIS for like 60% of specs to the point where they need to nerf it to make them take it off. If the goal was making an item that isnāt for people with 420 gear they missed the mark by a long shot.
The blood stone does about 13% of my dps and the cold stone does sometimes fifteen. If I were in 420s including rings the only thing Iād even consider not using it for is if I had a 420 diurna and even then Iād just trash whatever other ring I have
I donāt know why people are complaining about it. Almost free item that is good that doesnāt take up a tier spot.

Check sims. Itās not bis for every spec.

As a frost dk the frost stone scales with my mastery and so it does more, there might be cases where a different dps stone scales with another classes mastery enough to slip into the BiS position (I think this happens with Arcane mages).
DPS wise pretty much. Plague can have some use but the effort it takes to swap it out is not worth flying out to do. There is an option for tanks that does less damage but a lot of bonus shielding, I use it on my monk when pugging dungeons Iām unsure of.
Unless the stones are made to fluctuate in power randomly throughout the day I donāt see how there could ever not be a BIS.
Would be interesting, balance them all at their lowest ilvl but have the gems randomly fluctuate 5-10 ilvl.
I wonder if that would be enough to get people to build custom combos for fun? Doubt it.
Unholy with the plague stone is probably nuts on big aoe pulls
Iāve been using it a bit for Tyrannical week on M+ but I really, REALLY hate giving up so much mastery and haste to accommodate it.
