The only reason the Warcraft movie did not have a huge box office

There weren’t enough Elves. Instead they spent the budget on CGI Orcs and Dwarves. Nobody likes those horrid creatures. They are not pleasing to look at. There were so many places they could have populated with High Elves, Goldshire Inn, Dalaran, Karazhan. The only part worth watching of the Warcraft movie is the last 3 seconds where the High Elves made an appearance.

It flopped because it wasn’t easy to follow for anyone that was new to the series. The movie jumped all over the place and was very hard to follow especially if you didn’t know who the characters were ahead of time. Of course if you know the lore from around the first war it was a little easier to follow, but they could have easily picked a much better storyline than the first invasion like Arthas’ story for example. The Lich King is commonly accepted as a household name in the gaming world and could have made for a wonderful blend of Blizzard CGI and live-action cinema for an already great story.

Maybe some day a new director will take the reins and publish something truly representative of the epic Warcraft tale, the one we got just didn’t scratch the itch for the Warcraft themed film we wanted.

It flopped because people find Warcraft 3 to be a better starting point than obscure Warcraft 1 and 2.

I never saw it.

I wasn’t all that interested in seeing a retconned history, so I never bothered. I mean, they had Dalaran flying already, right? What in the world is up with that?

Maybe someday I’ll watch it and it won’t be as bad as I imagine. Maybe.

Oh another post to put my reason why something did something that did that.

They tried to make the orcs sympathetic to an audience that had no context as to why they were the protagonist.

Battle of mount hyjal would be a sight to see.

Not techically part of arthas’ story, but important enough to affect arthas.

Yeah honestly, WC3 would have been a better starting point.

I enjoyed it.

I’d love to see a Director’s cut, with lots more Travis Fimmel’s übersexy Lothar, and suddenly hot Ben Foster as Medivh.

I also need an eventual sequel where Toby Kebbell plays grown up Wrathion, please.

I loved the movie though let’s be honest here: finding Durotan ‘hot’ made me question my sanity in general.

I always felt it would have been better off as a tv series than a movie way too many characters, events and lore to establish than what a movie can cover.

They should have done the Lich King.
Not sure what they were smoking.

I didn’t watch the film once it came out because I don’t want to “cringe” at all the CGI models and spells of a world I love.
Everything about WoW is either imagined in my head from reading, or from the game. I don’t want to start picturing things from the movie too.

But prior to that, I remember seeing clips and trailers for it, and all I kept thinking to myself was damn, it’s really blurry CGI and hard to see whats going on.
I guess that’s realistic, playing melee in BGs I usually have no idea what I’m doing.

I disagree with starting with WC3. They were right to start with the first War. They should have just gone with the Orcs being the bad guys and focused on the Humans as good guys. They could have started making the Orcs sympathetic and evening the two out in the sequel.

-First movie Orcs bad invaders, Humans good, beat bad Orcs.
-Second movie Orcs fall to infighting we see not all of them are bad and we get some background as to why they invaded. Now they are desperate and fighting for their lives. Making questionable alliances with nasty Trolls. Humans still win but they aren’t so good by the end some demanding the Orcs execution. Movie ends with Orcs in camps
-Third movie is Thrall and the escape of the Orcs to Kalimdor and the war between the Orcs and Proudmore with Jaina siding with the Orcs.
-Fouth movie, conflict with the Nelfs and setting up the Legion as the bad guys and the war with the Legion, setting up story elements with Arthas and Jaina to lead into…
-Fifth movie, full on LK story to finish the series.

You are making too much sense. It’s not healthy :stuck_out_tongue:

Bad Script … that’s all
P. Jackson could do the movie much better

Elves looked creepy in the movie, exactly what I expected from a race that is a mutation from a mutated race, and not the doll like figures they are ingame.

They humanized the horde, should have stuck with the original story from Warcraft 1.We would have had a sequel where the horde sacked and burned Stormwind to the ground!

It was a movie for the fans. Get the people that made The Witcher on Netflix to do a Warcraft miniseries. Live Action epicness.

Would make the likes of Game of Thrones look like a child’s story if they did Warcraft to it’s potential.

They should have told Thrall’s story. Orc raised by humans to be a gladiator (open scene should be him in the ring), tell about his escape, meeting grom/warsong, the frostwolves, becoming a shaman, hooking up with durotan earning the armour/hammer etc

They didn’t need to over explain everything.

The acting was bad and yeah more elves.
