The argument is flawed, selecting a covenant is not like selecting a class, besides this expecting blizzard to balance anything is awful
You are right. It not like picking a class. People are losing their minds over 2 abilities. Just make a decision and move on.
Yes, less player choice is good
2 abilities that lock you into an aesthetic and story line, and vice versa.
Yes balance is king. We all need to be identical grey boxes with only a single button that does the exact same effect. Now everyone will be happy! I can sarcasm too.
That would be homogenization
Yes,make the choice that is more important to you. Personally it’s aesthetics and story I really don’t care what abilities happen to.be best
The system currently doesnt allow minmaxing so what do you mean? Having the option does just that, it gives the option.
So just like the flying crowd just pretend you’re locked and let others change
Which is the illogical conclusion to what you’re advocating.
Both are important to me. If I have an aesthetic I enjoy and gameplay I don’t enjoy I’m not going to play the game for long. Just like if I have gameplay I enjoy and an aesthetic I don’t. Making every choice feel bad is not good for the game. It will only serve to drop the population even more.
So like the OP said. You’ve chosen DK your DK is not optimal for every aspect of the game. Did you choose DK for its playstyle or its aesthetics? Either the ability will be perfect for your playstyle or it won’t be perfect but will still serve. Your class isn’t something you can just change. Why should your covenant.
Didnt Ion basically say that?
Both. Covenants are not classes, nor should they be. There is only one covenant I like the aesthetic of. If I have to play a nature dk or an angel dk to have fun gameplay, I just won’t play. That’s what it comes down to here. Aesthetics should be independent from gameplay. Let us make choices on each that don’t affect the other. If all covenants aesthetics could fit for all classes I wouldn’t have as much of an issue. But do you really think a druid or pally wants an undead aesthetic? No.
The question is. Do you have to have the very best ability to have fun playing?
The question is are all abilities equally fun to use. So far, from what I’ve seen, the answer is no.
So with this statement you feel that since blizzard sucks at balancing classes they will more than likely suck at balancing covenants. I ask though why does it have to be that way and why should be not expect things to come to us a little closer in the balance department.
We are talking about dps/hps/ and overall utility with these and its insane that people play this game to get gear and kill stuff and for some reason you are pretty much suggesting i dont need to pick up the gear.
I would argue you’ve already made a similar choice with your race choice. The gnome racial is not perfect for your class but you chose it anyway. Why? Shouldn’t you expect a free race change anytime the content you do requires a better racial ability?
Don’t mind me, jus’ postin’ in a Ralph thread.
Racial abilities are a side note, well other than shadowmeld in m+. Some work well in some fights, some work well in others, most don’t see regular use. They are an after thought. Covenant abilities, however, are front and center, and content will be balanced around having them. Same applies to covenant specific legendaries. If they are balanced like legion legendaries were there will be vastly better ones.
