Since it is obvious that Blizzard has no intention of actually combating RMT, the WoW token is the solution.
If real money is going to be in the game, the token is the most noble and honorable means to that end.

Absolutely not.
Blizzard must address bots and money traders, or the game dies.
They won’t sadly
They did. By not doing anything just recently lmao
Which means the token is our best bet
RMT is sadly a forever part of many games.
The only thing you can do is report every single time you see an ad in game.
It will not do much but at least will annoy the gold sellers.
Perma ban buyers on first offense or introduce the token. Simple stuff
That is not easy.
The gold sellers do not deliver to the person directly.
They ask you to put up like 20 or 30 items for sale at the AH divided by the amount you purchased.
You think that in the past 20 + years companies have not tried to combat RMT?
They have and the sellers evolve with it.
It’s not simple stuff at all.
I report every single instance of advertisement I see on chat knowing that at best, it annoys the seller into have to buy the game again to create another account. But considering how much money these people prolly make, it’s nothing but an inconvenience.
At no point in time has Blizzard ever drew a hard-line on Gold buying. Not once.
On first offense, your account is permanently banned. That is what has to be done.
The token has never resolved any semblance of RMT in this game. It’s just Blizzard trying to get a slice of the pie.
Yes, instead of having outside entities doing it, you do it. This is quite literally how you combat drug cartels in reality.
Ok…
You think it is simple and it is not. And I have seen people banned for it in the past.
I didn’t realize there was a legally-sanctioned trade of Schedule I drugs in the United States. Crazy.
The only thing the token does is compel gold sellers to undercut Blizzard’s price. The people who always bought gold will continue to do so through those same means.
You put Token in Wow -F then after about 5 to 10 days everyone realizes they can’t afford anything from the AH ever again without swiping a card. Sounds promising
What happened with MJ? What schedule was that?
The token isn’t really a “solution,” it’s just a different flavor of the same problem. RMT exists because players want shortcuts, and bots exist because Blizzard hasn’t committed to consistent enforcement.
Adding the token doesn’t remove RMT — it just formalizes one channel while the others keep operating anyway. Retail proved that pretty clearly.
The real fix is Blizzard actually cracking down on bots and sellers. If they don’t do that, a token won’t magically clean things up. It’ll just give people a sanctioned option on top of the unsanctioned ones.
If Blizzard wants Forever to feel like an MMO world instead of a marketplace, enforcement matters more than monetization.
Do you think MJ is the only drug the cartels deal in???
He’s talking about the king of pop.
Obviously not and that isn’t a necessary component of the argument. This has been a logical adversary to black market economies for all of human history
I feel like this is going to happen anyway, with rampant gold buying being more common/socially acceptable/free from repercussions. The social contract is completely shot.
