I was thinking about how they could get people to drop millions of gold on another cool gold sink mount. If they no longer want to offer an AH vendor, what else would entice the masses to drop so much money on a mount? Then it hit me! Why not a pocket mage that rides along on the mount with you. When you click on the mage, it gives you a menu with multiple portal locations it can open for you. Just click where you want to go and the animation starts and a portal opens.
It’s a cool idea, because portals already exist in the game all over the world and mages have them as well. So there is no stability issues and not a ton of extra coding has to be done for the mount. Many classes would love to have the ability to portal anywhere at anytime. Yes, Mages will cry their magic tears and the unfairness threads will be many on the forums, but has that ever deterred Blizzard from doing stuff before?
Also, many items in the game already offer portals for non mage classes, like the cloaks that allow you to teleport to Org or Stormwind. The rings that port to Dalaran, cloak for Tol Barad, Lost Artifact for Timeless Isle, Necklace for Karabor, Ring for Karazhan, etc. So many more, but I have a lot on my main character, so it shouldn’t upset mages that bad, as people can already collect a ton of items if they want to.
