Just let renew die Blizzard. It’s okay. Everything will be alright.
Deep breath, and let renew go. Were all here to support you. We’ll get through this.

we love renew
who knew, Worgen trolling. Go figure.
I’m not sure but I think for next patch renew will be important for raiding.
Lasting words + Empowered renew + Voice of harmony + Prayer of circle sounds like a very powerful aoe healing window.
I think within a few secs you could get the whole raid with renew hots
Renew has been around since vanilla. Unlike worgens.
Holy Priests have had the same exact toolkit for 15+ years.
Chakras/early Holy Words were introduced in 4.01 in the holy revamp at the start of cata.
Hymn of Hope was from BC, renamed in Wrath to Symbol of Hope
Minor nitpicks but you are right about most of the priest toolkit being very old.
I quit at the end of WOTLK so I got to play around with the Chakra’s in the pre-patch before Cata came out.
WOTLK is when they baselined the Priest racials like you mentioned. Fear Ward, Devouring Plague, Symbol of Hope, etc. I just didn’t feel like noting that as it’s largely irrelevant in today’s age.
Holy also had Mindblast and Mind Sear at different points, but it was removed.
Current iteration of Holy is my favorite since Cata. I loved the Chakra system and quit after it was removed, but this toolkit we have now (especially with the layout I chose) is even better. Apotheoses > Chastise > Holy Fire spam > and that 20 empowered Holy Nova are so much fun for DPSing both solo and in dungeons.
The healing kit is even better, and I’m glad Cozy will be gone because I vastly prefer PoH usage, especially with how it will be utilized. Looking forward to the changes.
Renew is great, I don’t want it removed.
Anyway, I’m happy my main is a Priest again. Been a long time.
Not interested in Shadow or Discipline, though. I have my MM Hunter for ranged DPS, Holy Priest for heals, WW Monk for melee, and Paladin for tanking. Happy WoW player here.
IF anything in PVP Disc could badly use stronger renew & POM. It’s one of the reasons CDEW said the spec was dead last Xpack just no healing at all while in micro CC’s compared to other healers.
Currently nothing about renew is great. I don’t want it gone, but I certainly want it to be good.
The issue with Renew is that it’s healing is just scaled way too low and it doesn’t benefit from Mastery. Renew currently does 1/3rd the healing of Flash Heal and it’s only benefit is to build up stacks of Healing Chorus.
I just think it’s odd that you have to talent into Empowered Renew and Prismatic Echoes just to make Renew do the same healing as Flash Heal. It should just baseline be buffed up +90%.
The only potential for a Renew heavy focused build would be something revolving around Holy Mending and Lasting Words. If Empowered Renew was a 12s cd and hotted the whole party then it’d be really good because you can keep up 100% of the time.
It just needs to be buffed without gimmicks. It should be the kind of thing that is always a good choice to cast before damage is going out and when the amount it heals for is likely to be wasted anyway. There’s no damage windows going out that are longer than its twelve second duration. It should contribute some healing when you cast it on people and not just be some gimmick that’s used to buff another spell.
Mastery not affecting it is a pretty big deal too. 30% less healing right now if you’re crit/mastery build.
They have weird kind of math that they use in this game where everything has to be equal HPS. Renew takes 20% less time to cast than Flash Heal so it should do 20% less healing is their sort of thinking with things like this it seems. I notice similar patterns all over the place with these numbers. They do this simple math, seem to obfuscate (sp) it behind this visage of elite class balancing, and then just go back after people play and nerf anything that is doing too good and then buff anything that is related to the way they want a particular class to play for a given season, like changing it up and forcing players to play in certain ways creates engagement and subscribers and money. They completely ignore the fact that if that’s how they balance a spell like that then people will always choose Flash Heal or whatever is more practical because nobody but the tippy top 0.1% of the players will have a practical way to ‘abuse’ a spell that goes outside of their little mathematical HPS framework.
Anyways, didn’t need a new renew mechanic. They had a good one a few seasons ago and then took it away and now there’s a cooldown associated with a 60% buff on a spell that heals for nothing? Whatever, I’m tired of it.
They’ve historically balanced all classes around artificial maximum theoretical output. The problem is that holy priest has historically been saddled with additional mechanical penalties to their spells that other healers haven’t: Lightwell that won’t heal, prayer of mending that won’t heal unless there’s rot damage, tank-healing cooldown that can get a bonus 3-minute recycle penalty, chakhras that ensure that you’re in the wrong stance for all but two fights in an expansion, etc.
Right now the bigger problem for us is that high end mythic+ damage patterns are based on the amount of AoE throughput you can put out in a short time. Lightwell, renew, mastery, and divine hymn (healing component) simply put are very, very poor tools for dealing with this. CoH / PoH could work, but simply do not hit nearly hard enough.
We wouldn’t be having this problem if all of our hots had time to do their entire healing, but they don’t. Since nobody dealing with priests is playing holy priest in mythic+, the odds of getting the proper fix is low.
They should just let renew die and buff echo of light to compensate, really … Personally I think they should ditch renew and keep Circle of Healing — as it’s grey for an emergency small-heal pop on a few people to buy you time to cast individual heals on each member – Especially for PvP and M+
Holy in DF was throttled by our PoM and CoH cooldowns because our filler spells did fairly low healing. You wouldn’t get more then 3-5% from Flash Heal, Renew (w/ talents), or PoH.
This season is the first season since Shadowlands where our filler spells (i.e. Flash Heal/Heal) are actually strong and CoH and PoM are weak in comparison. The other thing holding down CoH and PoM is the fact that Halo is 20%+ of our overall healing. So now instead of being throttled by PoM and CoH were throttled by Halo.
If Halo didn’t exist they’d probably have doubled the healing on CoH and PoM.
The changes in 11.1 are just redistributing the power from Flash Heal / Heal into our Holy Words. Our new tier set bonus encourages you to sit in Apotheosis for as long as possible because each Holy Word cast will create a stack of Insurance.
