They fly all over the place. Names can be left or right and are nowhere near where the mob is in the 3D world. The old one was not good either, but at least they somewhat tried to stick to what they belong to.
I wanna quickly jump in and double down on this - the nameplates are absolutely unusable!
Just please copy all the Plater code and make it default nameplates - playing with Plater on live and then going on the Alpha with this makes me wanna cry
I will also say I have noticed the new nameplates overlapping in a bad way and hiding important information like casts because they are covered by another enemies nameplate.
One thing I would like to see is that if an enemy is casting at least make the nameplate appear on top of the other name plates and not stack with other casting enemies so that their visibility is increased. But in general I do agree with Kirenaika, Plater kinda feels like the gold standard in terms of name plates.
Id like to see the “important casts” also become more visually distinguished from normal casts. Currently they are too similar visually for me and its hard to distinguish them.
I ran a dungeon and the nameplates were pretty rough. I appreciate that they try very hard to not overlap, but we can’t have nameplates going from the left to the right side of the stack. Mobs moving completely reorganizes them. It’s really hard to use in the current form.
A friend and I did a few delves with various nameplate options on or off and here’s our notes:
if nameplates were on all of the time, it was overwhelming. the collegiate delve was the worst because mobs that were up the stairs out of sight also showed their plates and those bars kept shuffling around like the mobs were speeding through the halls (they aren’t.) i tried using the “offscreen” setting in the parhelion delve and didn’t see a difference.
if i turned off all nameplates, then i couldn’t really tell the names of the mobs until we entered combat, when the nameplates would trigger. what i would love is if nameplates would appear as i enter a certain proximity to the mobs (this is how i have it running right now in retail with elvui)
if the stack name plate option was on, i had trouble targeting a mob that was close to another one. but if the stack option was off, those bars kept rearranging like they were atoms bouncing around in the cern collider even though the mobs themselves weren’t moving at all. it was like the bars had to maintain a certain buffer distance between each other and kept trying to readjust that. that made it really distracting when trying to fight
The nameplate options are horrible in the first place. I, personally, need taller plates than I do wider plates. They NEED to separate the height from the width or let us use our fave addon.
OMG, i just ran into this on the beta, wanted to check something out in cinderbrew and the nameplates in that first room were going wild. Definitely not playable like that.
