Now here’s also to hoping that solo queue bgs is a test drive for it being actually worth anything on rated. But now no obligatory arena to upgrade a PvE set, which makes perfect sense. Huzzaaaah!!! <3

Does upgrading the gear remove the “unranked, combatant” etc green text? Does it upgrade with the item, or does it stay the same regardless of rank?
Example.
- I buy an unranked piece, and upgrade it. Does it stay unranked?
- I hit 1800, does the old piece still say “unranked”, even when I upgrade it?
I must be doing something wrong i quickly ran out of currency for my epics upgrading, it and my purchased gear doesn’t say challenger 2 just unranked
I am going to very much disagree with this statement.
Honor gear must now use something other than honor to upgrade, Conquest gear can only be upgraded to a pve item level that is = gear that drops just doing the quest chain… All higher ranked pvp gear is now rng through the vault regardless of if you hit 1600 1800 2100. Not to mention all this needs 3 types of currency to upgrade. I still have yet to see drakes crest drop in pvp… Not that its hard to farm just another added something that never needed to be added.
TLDR we went from one form of currency to three, gating gear is now not just gated but rng.

No, and its kind of stupid, because you may be already higher rank, but only new fresh gear from the vault gets better rank, and can be upgraded further.
For example, Elite can be upgraded up to 483…
There should be a way to upgrade rank of existing gear, otherwise people will just gear and regear from the vault

If all you do is PvP you don’t need the upgrade at all. Nothing changes for PvP. If you’re doing PvE, now… you’ll need PvE stuff to upgrade the PvE part of the gear. Which is perfectly fair. Unlike the absolute madness of “So you need elite rank to have a single pve + pvp set, instead of carrying two in your bags, GL!!!”

I honestly don’t really care what random complaints someone is gonna come up with this time, I’m happy I can have a single set and not need to do rated stuffz for a PvE bonus. The forums are not only for complaints, y’know.
You get the currencies required to upgrade your gear from PvP though, it’s in the strongboxes you get for winning.
The useless bags from last season aren’t useless anymore.
Yeah, that’s another win!! But I haven’t gotten any drakes from them yet, so it doesn’t exclude the PvE part.
If it’s like last season, you get better crests when you get a higher rating.

Ah I see, I didn’t know that. Makes sense. I’ll likely just stick to PvE for them. I’m just merrily doing some solos for the conquest and nothing else this time around.

No I agree taking away the restrictions on the 8/8 was great it was the multiple currency and the low rating that was bothering me. The currency is just the way it is. As mentioned in another post BLIZZ fixed my big compliant with the upgraded to the pve bonus from vendor set and not making it RNG though vault.
Over all I retract my first statement and say I am mostly satisfied with this change…

This makes sense. Do PvE activities to upgrade the PvE item level.
What I like the most of the new upgrade system is that I can send honor to my alts and buy the honor gear really quickly while pvping on my main. No more suffering doing low lvl pvp while leveling with max players doing Party sync and getting wreck because of the gear gap.

I still don’t quite understand, the currency is there to stop crests piling on your bags, it was really annoying.
Well, I’m glad. They’re being very through with that one, seems they got a lil something on all fronts.
