Having an almost permanent Slice and Dice used to be an assassination gimmick for many many years via the talent “Cut to the Chase” which caused finishers to refresh slice and dice, allowing you to keep it up forever.
Real shame that now Sub is the free slice and dice class.
We need changes / new options where Master Assassin and Toxic Blades are in our talent tree (arguably even alacrity)…those are perfect places to give us different options for SnD synergy.
Talents simplifying the rotation is welcome, in my eyes. But they need to be slightly undertuned to reward strong execution of more complicated talents and rotations.
Savage Roar, for Feral Druid, is a good example of the opposite problem.
I don’t see Blizzard taking a philosophical approach to talent design though. Just (1) leaving it as context-driven “loadouts” (“decision matrix”), and (2) covering it up with other systems they imagine aren’t just “decisions” for more DPS.
I’m loving the new premed, It was really rare that those two points would go to something other than SnD in the opener (if it wasn’t up) and they would just go to whatever else otherwise.
Now you just have to be careful about opening when you have a SnD that needs to be refreshed, lest you waste a global. Or opening when you have a good SnD and 4+ points lest you waste the combo points.
Big quality of life improvement over previous premeditation.
Its just great
If you think premed is a slap in the face to assassination wait until you see what it did to subtlety rogues.
A versatile talent that was one of the more complicated cooldowns to min-max manage properly outside of the “premed slice” opener, boiled down into being a boring, half-baked gameplay modifier that only offers convenience and no tangible creativity or difference in gameplay.
So, what I’ve learned from reading all these SnD threads is this:
• If SnD is “free”, it’s a bad thing and is pointless. Just bake it into the spec.
• If there’s a “cost” to it, it’s a wonderful thing and adds 6 layers of depth that only good players can appreciate.
• The player base is pretty much split on which they prefer.
Perhaps Blizzard should give us a talent row with options that alter how we interact with SnD.
a CttC mechanic that refreshes SnD. The refresh trigger can be different for each spec. (Envenom, Shadow Strike, Between the Eyes)
Replace SnD with a big juicy cool down that nets about the same dps. Something like Death from Above, except better.
Extend the duration per CP. For example, 4 seconds per CP would extend a 5 CP SnD by 20 seconds.
Premed is a slap in the face to Sub if anything. It’s nowhere near as powerful as cut to the chase was. You get a free 10 secs on Slice and Dice at the start of an encounter and every 2 mins. Trash talent hopefully gets reworked before or during the first tier of SL
Ah yes, because Sub having something nice to ease up their bloated kit takes so much away from Assassination. Whenever Sub gets a buff, there’s a hidden sequence in the game’s codes that automatically nerfs Sin by the exact same amount.
Sin used to have an automated SnD because they needed it, while Sub was free to maintain SnD and dots during the massive downtime between each Dance. Now Sin has become a snoozefest 2 button spec, while Sub’s kit is overloading the action bar, so Sub gets to skip out on the buff maintenance chore. It all makes perfect sense if you just use one of your three braincells and actually think for a bit.
Note the two abilities (CttC and Prem) include SnD but work in two differents ways. Considering the first comment in this topic this fact is quite important, right? Novadays Premed give Sub free SnD but at the same time fits perectly to the specific Sub bursting type style, activating in the opener and not at the finisher.
