If I could use something like THAT as my primary form in combat, I honestly don’t think I could contain my excitement. And given they SEEM to have a ton of animations added anyways, it sure SEEMS like they could function decently well.
Now obviously, you’d need to flip over to your Visage form for, I assume, most non-combat animations. I haven’t gotten to play the beta yet, but I assume they lack animations like “checking your map”, crafting items, etc. And they’re obviously not going to ride another mount looking like that, either.
But if you could rock a full-blown dragon form? Dude, I would genuinely lose my sh*t for how cool that would be!
They also SEEM like they have a metric ton of customizations there, also. But even if it was just “your primary scale-color”, and maybe style of horns, I would be pretty damn stoked.
Given the Evoker is clearly a dragon-based class and all that, it just FEELS like an option like this would really deliver on the coolest, purest fantasy of “playing as a Dragon” possible. Purely optional, of course; you could leave the existing “hybrid” Dracthyr form as an option, as well.
But for me, being able to have that sort of form just seems like THE PERFECT way to experience Dragonflight!
In terms of size, I feel like something comparable of a Druid’s Bear-form would be fine. Or maybe roughly eye-level with a Dwarf? I would think that would avoid a lot of issues of how much space they take up if you had a raid full of them or anything.
I’d never drop that thing as a main but… what about gear? Weapons? And their size would need to be dropped down to like Spyro levels, though maybe a bit larger. I’ve never seen anyone have an issue with the Demon Hunter’s Demon Form which is quite sizeable.
I could go for a quest or even a quest-chain, could be something like the efforts to get the Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest or Warlock green fire quest back in the day to get a full Dragon form option. Blizzard definitely won’t do a form like that for combat but it could be like a passive shapeshifting form from when out of combat, capable of traveling like both a flying and ground mount, but also capable of doing every emote, including sitting and sleeping and a mount special. Fully customizable in the barber shop.
But no. It’s too good, it’s too fun. Blizzard won’t do it.
Dracthyr already don’t display armor, so there’s zero difference there. Not sure about weapon, but I would just hide that entirely while in True/Dragon form, as well.
For their size, like I said, I would THINK if you put them eye-level with Dwarves, that would be pretty effective. They would still be considered very small by most Dragons’ standards, but I think they would absolutely work in terms of gameplay.
And yeah, I could see maybe making it some optional quest-chain of its own to unlock. Just like you unlock your base Visage as a (mandatory) quest, maybe this “Dragon form” could be its own quest?
Also worth mentioning; the new class-callout for Evokers in BWL has him transforming them into Whelps. And by all accounts, they ARE “Dragons”, they just look different.
Like I said, I feel like this would just be such an incredible option to have, to REALLY feel like we’re truly “playing as a dragon”. Maybe it’s a purely cosmetic “form”, sort of like Druids’ Treant form they can get from their Class hall, that is functionally identical to their standard form?
Plus, it would remove ANY issues I have about Dracthyr not displaying armor. Because if I can become an actual dragon? Brother; I’m gonna choose that ACTUAL Dragon form every day of the week.
I don’t like the new dragon models personally. I see them and I think this is supposed to be a new species of dragon, but then the lore treats it as if this is how they’ve always looked. It’s weird, I dunno.
The Draknoids, Whelps, and Dragonspawn are fine, but the Dragons themselves are pretty weird, aside from the Aspects who have identifying characteristics that make it clear they’re the same character.
I don’t like it. I don’t like the dragon redesign, and I don’t like the Dracthyr either.
I don’t normally buy into the SJW/Furry agenda but in this case… it is undeniable. It literally can’t be denied, as the artist working on these is a self-proclaimed furry on her twitter IIRC. And simply put… that’s not how’s artstyle. WoW’s artstyle is Metzen/Didier heavy metal. Spikes, horns, brutalistic, etc.
Hmm, I could kind of see it being a smidge too large. I’m fine with it, but could go either way. And yeah, they do have a slightly dog-like stance to them, but I’m actually cool with it.
Like I said, I’d still kill to play as one of those, just obviously scaled smaller. They actually LOOK like dragons, which is supposed to be the whole point of the class. I’m still holding out hope that maybe they get a Tank spec at some point in the future, which would make this even MORE badass.
