What did they change?
I doubt they will revert but this has turned into my least favorite BG. It’s like a slower paced AB and is very difficult to peel in time, even if calls for help are made early. In that sense, good gameplay is not rewarded.
It used to be a 3 base map with cart running, which made for some interesting slowing and flag killing strats while maintaining 1-2 bases.
It has turned into a large arathi basin. From my perspective there is siginficantly less dynamic and intersting play.
I might have put deepwind as my favorite bg, though that may be a bit strong, it was definitely a very different bg, whereas deepwind is just a small variant of arathi basin imo.
Were i to guess why it was removed, it was because of how vengeance dh was for the cart running aspect of the map, but the variances on the map were quite interesting imo, and i think would be fantastic this xpac
Oh that. I thought you were talking about the silvershard mine one. I got mixed up. I think the reason they changed it though was because DH leap was broken and they for some reason couldn’t just come up with a fix.
My biggest issue is that I take 50% falling damage from the graveyards.
It’s like AB with the same amount of bases, but twice the size, and all but one of the nodes the far reaches of each corner.
It has unnecessarily annoying terrain to travel through to get from node to node, and old EotS style lose-half-your-HP-jumping off-the-starting-point-rock graveyards.
Another annoying thing is the random NPCs that wander around the node points. I play a druid, so I guard bases in stealth with tracking up so I can see people coming.
Every single one of those stupid pandas show up on my tracking flooding my map. They are also hanging around flags making random noises that make me think someone might be around, but nope, it’s just some stupid panda NPC pulling up turnips.
We’re at war here pandas. Take a break from tending your crops.
I love this current version but I do miss the old one.
Maybe offer it has a brawl?
the new map is rather large, can we move it to the epic queue and make it a 40v40 or 25v25?
Even back in PTR testing old Deepwind Gorge, the main piece of feedback was the map was too large for 15 players. I don’t think 40v40 would work but would like to see them increase it to 20 v 20 to see how it plays out.

I think the map is way too large, it makes it annoying for calling out incs. You’re one one side of the map at farm and ruins needs help, good luck getting there in time. I hate it.
Blizzard just didnt want the train map being the least favorite so they made changes to deepwind. Now Deepwind is the only map i dislike
Or just don’t put graveyards on top of mount doom.
The old Deepwind was a much better map mixing cart running with node control. Very surprised they butchered this map as, aside from reskins, you can usually count on the good old battlegrounds to remain unchanged through out the years. Of course Strands was removed (rightfully so as it was loathed by most) and they once altered the starting cave of Alterac Valley. Other than that can’t think of many BG changes in the history of the game. We already had pure node maps like arathi and don’t think Deepwind was wildly unpopular either, so the changes make zero sense.
large maps are a good thing it forces people to stop and think logistics and positioning and whether 5 people are really necessary to pick 2 remaining skirmishers off at 1 node or perhaps anticipate a skrimish at a different node ahead of time.
