It’s Sunday folks, and you know what that means!
I like that the new cosmic chart removes “Holy” as the key identifier of The Light, or as an alignment itself that was only tied to The Light. In light of Xe’ra’s actions I think it is ingenuous to assume that all beings of the Light are “holy” or righteous.
The problem with calling the Light holy is there is also the argument that all Light beings are closer to whatever grand cosmic God in the WoW universe is than any other alignment, seeing that WoW is based on concepts of polytheism and duality, there likely isn’t one grand cosmic God of the WoW universe. This use of the word holy has also given some fans the wrong assumption that The Light is a strand in and should be taken as a stand in for irl Arbrahamic religion since the Church of the Holy Light is a stand in for Christianity. It creates a very rigid narrative that everyone on the side of Light is “good” and righteous and anyone on the side of anything else is “evil” or unrighteous.

I’d sort of just taken it as a word used to describe that power in the Azeroth universe. Holy power = the Light.
I don’t really care that it’s been changed though! I can see why it’d have connotations I guess.
Thanks for the explanation!
Incidentally Kyrian Death Magic deals Holy Damage so in the Context of Kyrian Death Magic’s existence it is no surprise that Light would not be considered Holy.
Holy Magics are Magics tied to Virtues: The Holy Magic of the Light is the manifestation of Valor/Bravery and Faith. The Holy Magic of Death is the manifestation of Wisdom, Courage, Purity, Loyalty, Devotion, Compassion, Purity and Humility. The Holy Magic of Life is a manifestation of Hope.
Shadowlands has revealed that Holy Magic is not limited to Light but extends to Death as well.

The Cult of the Forgotten Shadow is an example as well, they use the same fundamental tenants as the Church of the Holy Light. The main branch off is the idea that while the Naaru believe that by sending positive vibes out into the universe they can change the fate of the Universe. The Cult of the Shadow has a more divine humanistic approach that anyone can change the fate of the universe by exerting it’s will on others. It’s seems like that’s the basis of Domination magic.
There are those within the Light who exert their own will on others as well so it’s not something exclusive to the Shadow.

Correction: Kyrian Death Magic deals Arcane damage. That’s the damage type of my DH’s Elysian Decree.

I don’t, especially. I don’t like the fact that they’re continuing to retcon the way their world works.

This might be a very large stretch, Holy magic still exists in the setting; the Shadowlands cosmology chart removed all the magic school alignments, not just Holy.

Seems as if Abominations made from Kyrians spew Holy Damage.

“Retconning the way their world works” is a stretch? I thought that was a pretty noncontroversial statement.
Void and Arcane have a story of being compatible.
Arcane was even in the realm of Shadow on the original cosmic chart.
Where can I find this chat?
the original cosmic chart is in the Chronicles books. But you can find an image of it if you just google “WoW Cosmic Chart.”
This chart is kinda a geniestrike, because its shows the titan point of view, Order in a entropic way:
Entropy in a physical way is the Measure of disorder on a certain place/plane/Universe. With every force and every creation and deviation from state 0 (energetic) the entropy in our universe increases. Life and Fel aswell as light increase the entropy, order death and void nullified this effect…so its stay in balance.
The void is in this chart is the ultimate power of the order because it embodies entropy 0, the absolute nothing.
The light has a very high entropy by the creation and expanding way it acts. Like disorder and life(life/nature is naturally a high entropic thing, we change all the time and don´t stay the same)
The balance between the forces of Light Fel and Life and Arcane Death and Shadow is an entropic one.
That Cosmology wasn’t originally colored in and only received it’s colors on Fan modified versions.
Needless to say the above attempt to Color the thing in got it wrong…
For one thing: Necrotic is supposed to be Maldraxxus Green with Death itself being Blue(considering Zovaal’s Blue Death Magic what with him being the original Arbiter)…
It got Fel and Disorder’s Colors right as the Disorder Sphere clearly depicts the Netherstorm’s Manaforges that pull in Purple Volatile Chaotic Warp Energies/Mana(not to be mistaken for Arcane Energies) from the Twisting Nether.
Disorder it seems consists of Fel, Warp/Mana and Nether Energies while Order consists of Arcane Energies and Azerite.
Light consists of Holy and Sun Energies while Shadow consists of Void, Sha and Nightmare Energies.
Life consists of Nature and Night Energies while Death consists of Necromantic, Soul, Virtuous, Sin, Domination, Hyperlight and Twilight/Night Fae Energies.
Where would the eternal ones and the first ones fall in this? Would Sargaras fall under titans, and either way are titans lesser than void lord’s? But equal to naaru and undead? Or is it just the layout and the position isn’t meant to relay power?
The First Ones and the Eternal ones were not concieved of yet when this cosmic chart came out. The new Cosmic chart shows “The Balance” as two serpents representing Life and Death forming an Ouroboros, which is the symbol of the First Ones.
