I’m going to be honest here. I have no idea how this really works still.
I just drag followers into the slots and then I send them off.
Seems to be working so far.

I just assign all of my companions to the board, one mission at a time.
Here’s a little tip: if you complete you mission in the wow companion app, you can actually pause the combat so you can take time to read the combat log and make some sense of it
Drag enough In so your health and damage are higher than the enemy. The troops can be used multiple times in a fight. It’s pretty pointless though.
It took me a week to realize I could ‘duplicate’ my troop units and put out multiples to fill out all the slots on the board. Up until then I was just using my follower and one each of the units.
Me too. Really well explained ingame, right…
It’s an ongoing frustration to me that players have to research things from outside sources, especially when there is no ingame indication that what you are doing is wrong.
This last part is what I’m struggling with. Is this something I need to keep doing because it will be useful later and I’ll gimp myself if I don’t level up my companions? Or is it just a minor little gold/anima/crappy gear resource?
Put ranged units in the back and melee ones in the front.
A friend of mine said to me: “whats so hard about it? tanks in the front healers and dps in the back” and it actually helped LOL
I personally like the mission table for rep… I made so much gold from the exulted boxes in BFA… I hope they do that again.
The table has mount quests, its definitely worth it to use it and level people up.
I fill up every slot until their number goes higher than the enemy. It certainly helped me alot when I read that the followers in the bottom half can be used as many times as you want in each mission.
Make sure you read the abilities of the enemies you face if you mouse over their icons.
bad idea. think harder.
Well, I put them in the correct slots.
I assign all my companions to the same mission. The XP mission. The XP isn’t split and they each get the full benefit. A good way to level them all up.
OMG what? Well, that will help…
Probably just minor bonuses. So far I just pickup companion exp or anima rewards.
I actually like this version quite a bit. The hard missions can be rough if all you do is throw troops on the field and pray.
I’ve found it to be fairly confusing. Originally, I had no idea you could use multiples of the same troop type in a single mission (I thought it meant for any single mission them over once, but did not have to recruit more for future missions). Some of the mechanics don’t always make sense. I’ll place someone in my second row (further from the enemy, ie ranged) to benefit from abilities where my people may have an ability that damages everyone at ranged, but apparently only affects the back of their row. Sometimes enemies have abilities that are supposed to damage a character in the front row and whatever is behind them and then whatever is behind them doesn’t get damaged for whatever reason. In one mission, enemies attacking the closest target may be this position, but on the next mission with an enemy claiming to attack the closest target will attack a different target despite being in the same position…
Part of it is kind of interesting. I like being able to see the combat and having a little bit more of a sense of involvement than “this troop covers x condition granting 100% chance of victory”, but the current implementation could use some refinement.
ive been experiencing a lot of this frustration. spent 3/4 extra hours on my 2nd day of trying to unlock kul tarin race just trying to find any answer to what i was missing. and the answer wasnt even in the article guide it was in the comments of another quest guide that wasnt even exactly related to my quest.
I just want to know where to get more followers I’ve only got 3…

Gives you a fair bit of info on the mission table.
It cannot be overstated that Troops can be used infinitely, but each one added increases the cost of your Adventure.
