Does World of Warcraft deserve all of these vitriol and hate and all the negativity that’s aimed at this game? And how would you want them (Blizzard) to do in order to relief some of those things?
It’s practically a meme at this point. People hate it because it’s survived them for so long.
And it will continue to survive them.
You have to take into consideration that, at least here, the people who constantly bash the game are still paying for a product that they claim to dislike.
“This game sucks so hard but here’s $15 a month! Trash game!!!”
~
There is more too it than just that but the game will continue to die a slow death.
No, but also yes.
ActiBlizz has been an awful company, though agnostic from things like gameplay or content. Being bombarded with news regarding things like lawsuits, bullying, harassment, and even death all make it really hard to enjoy a company’s product.
A lot of the backlash they have gotten* (speaking mostly in past tense) was well deserved in my opinion, but a lot of it is also completely unjustified. Because one aspect of the game is bad, people extrapolate the bad things to talk about how other non-related things are also bad because reasons.
In a nutshell, actiblizz failed its fans before. And because of that, we must also hate random cinematics and promo material they put out.
It doesn’t help when you hear the usual WoW “influencer”-types digging into how bad the game is. Like, I enjoy bellular and almond milk as much as everyone else, but when it gets disproportionately negative is the time i just start to tune out and look for reasons why i can still enjoy the game in spite of its flaws.
An adentum to this post, I would like to clarify that the disproportionate negativity is not helped by things that affect the end product, such as indefinite delays, canceled patches, and long content droughts. The situation only compounds from there.
The game itself is fine in the latest patch but there is most definitely negative criticisms that Blizzard deserves, their absolutely terrible handling on the new catalyst system that should have been released day one of the latest raid tier not two more weeks from now is one example.
According to these forums, WoW’s been dying a slow death for 18 years.
Danuser does. At the very least.
Too much to write about. Bottom line, flick Danuser from his position, hire a competent writer.
Otherwise, 9.2 was a start in rectifying some things from a gameplay & mechanical perspective, but there is a long road ahead to course correct.
I don’t think people hate it because of how old it is.
I think the issue is that they’re trying to change the game to keep up with the new generations of gamers and what they play. But new generations don’t care about “mom and dad’s old game.” And the old generations feel alienated from their game by the new changes they dislike.
So neither group is interested and here we are.
Granted, that’s not everyone. There are some that enjoy it and some that still find something they think is fun.
holy,
I’m old.
Get off my lawn!!!
back in my day we played real videh games like warcraft 3 reforged. look at them hip young whipper snappers playing adjusts glasses candy crush?
When you treat employees and customers like garbage then you deserve everything you get. This company has no respect for anyone but profit. So yes they deserve it and more I say.
Back in my day, I played Space Invaders on a Colecovision console
maybe if wow didnt do stuff to invite the hate, people wouldnt hate it so much
Yep, just like EverQuest and RuneScape and Eve and all the other mmos older even than WoW that continue dying a slow death while still getting regular expansions
At work, we have the new trainee officers come down to sit with us in dispatch to see how things work on our end. During one of our late night lulls, I was chatting up the new trainee about video games and he asked me what I play. So I said WoW. He replied with, “Oh I remember that game! My dad used to play it when I was a kid!”
I was just like:
Considering how many players it has lost since its peak, that’s actually a thing.
Maybe I’ll add that to my list of things I like about Wow. It is amusing that wows continued existence upsets people
Is there a game out there that has kept approximately the same playerbase size over the course of 18 years?
