The Need for Higher Velocities (Quest) - No "Surge Forward" button

I posted this under the QUEST sub-forum but got no answers. Neither have I received any help from my guild. So, I thought I’d post it here.

This is frustrating me to no end especially since, as I understand it, if I cannot fly I might as well quit the game.

As implied, I’m doing the “Need for Higher Velocities” quest with my own dragon.

However, when I start the quest I don’t get a Surge Forward button. I do get three blue “vigor recharges” ovals right on top of my action bars but no Surge Forward button anywhere. I am using “Bartender” - could that be interfering with this? I’m also a hunter but have dismissed my pet.

What am I missing?

Thanks in advance,

Taka

I suggest you save your bartender interface, turn it off and do a /reloadUI, do all this to at least complete the quest. Also go to Edit Mode and choose the default UI; make a full relog and I suppose that should do.

Thanks, Anrion.

That makes sense. Do you know how to save a bartender interface? I’m looing but don’t see how.

I don’t use bartender but I took this info from the net.

“Go to the profiles section at the bottom when you type /bt. Just start a new profile and copy the settings from your main one (there a box that says copy from) then edit what you want to. Same as pretty much an UI add on. Elvui etc”

Hope it helps!

I use bartender and flight, they work together. I’m sure a lot of folks do.

First check your glyph/skill page and make sure you have surge forward.

What could happen in bartender is that your possess bar isn’t enabled correctly and you need to see surge forward there.

Like above poster, I suggest resetting the interface which should work out of the box. But rest assured, it works.

Thanks Dreadgoat.

I don’t know where the “glyph/skill” page is to check for surge forward.

I checked the Profiles tab in Bartender. Under Existing Profiles it shows “Globel”. The drop down list shows me and all my alts. I assume if I uninstall and reinstall Bartender those all will still be available and all I would have to do is to select one? OR do I just “turn it off” and, if so, how is that done?

Sorry if I don’t make sense but I’m scared of losing my Bartender settings.

I guess by “turning if off” that means to “disable” it?

The glyph/skill page is on the same button as reputations, but on the left, on the minimap. All you want to do is make sure your points are spent, because I can’t remember if surge forward needs points or is free.

I think what you need to check is just the main action bar 1. If you look in BT4 options, bar 1, general settings this should be set as your possess bar. When you get on the dragon the selected possess bar should have your dragonriding skills mapped to buttons for use.

“The glyph/skill page is on the same button as reputations, but on the left, on the minimap. All you want to do is make sure your points are spent, because I can’t remember if surge forward needs points or is free.”

Sorry, I have no idea what this means. If I go to Reputations | Dragonflight, I just see Dragonscale Expedition, Valddrakken Accord, Artisan’s Consortium & Wrathion.

“When you get on the dragon the selected possess bar should have your dragonriding skills mapped to buttons for use.”

Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen. My actions bars don’t change. In addition, I get three blue-ish ovals superimposed on top of the middle of my bars.

I’m going to cross my fingers and go ahead and disable Bartender and use the default UI. I hope that my profiles are still there when i enable it later.

Thanks, again to you all.

Correction, I’m wrong. It has nothing to do with the possess bar but it’s bonus bar 11. Try asking in the UI and macros forum. Also just search there, but they can help better than I.

The blue ovals are vigor, you can move that in edit mode as ‘encounter bar.’

You won’t lose any unused profiles, feel free to make changes if you select a new one.

Good luck.

One last thing to try. To the left of the reputations you should see clickable dragon riding abilities. I know you said they are missing, but we need to find your dragonriding skills because you can drag them to your action bar.

Then simply try copying one into your bar 1. See if your bar switches when you get on and off the dragon.

After that try disabling bartender. If you disable addons from the checkbox on the character load screen, you can’t lose settings and just enable it again after troubleshooting.

I found the dragon riding skills. They’re under General in my Spellbook. I put Surge Forward in my #1 slot and tried the Higher Velocity quest. Mashing the #1 key does nothing.

I guess I could try disabling Bartender and using the default UI for the quests but this means I would have to go thru all this disabling/enabling every time I wanted to use my dragon? or could I just use my old mounts and fly the way I used to?

EDIT:

OK. I moved the Surge Forward to the #1 slot in action bar #1. I could only use it once. Then it was never active so after 2 rings, I just floated to the ground. Tried 3 times. This sux.

I’m talking to someone in the UI sub-forum, Dreadgoat, so I’ll let them take over.

Thanks again for all your help <3.
